The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk brings the community together to shed light on suicide awareness and prevention. The third annual event will be held on Sunday, October 25th, 2015 at Carrier Park off of Amboy Road in Asheville, North Carolina.
The walk offers participants an opportunity to make friends, find emotional support, and build community. The walk raises funds for education, advocacy, research and support programs for those impacted by suicide. In the United States, a person dies by suicide nearly every 12.95 minutes, claiming more than 40,000 lives each year. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death for Americans.
“Dare to reach your hand into the darkness, to pull someone into the light.” – Norman B Rice
Last year’s walk raised over $13,000 and brought together so many participants. “I really want to make this a huge success this year. It hits close to home for me and I know so many others in this community could benefit as well.” said Bree Charlier, Chair of Asheville’s Out of the Darkness Walk.
