Asheville Beer Week: Flip Cup

Asheville Beer Week 2014: Flip Cup

Another oldie but goodie, the classic Flip Cup is a game that people (even tipsy) take seriously. Don’t take my word for it – on my internet travels I found a website dedicated to the Major League Flip Cup, and the World Series Flip Cup Event. Perhaps beer week isn’t an official drinking game event, but it is still a good period of time to practice for your team – maybe you can take the gold in the 2014 World Series Flip Cup Event (time and date to be announced).

You Will Need: Beer, a minimum of 6 cups – each player will need his or her own cup. We recommend using plastic cups
Ideal Number of Players: 6+
How to Play: Split evenly into two teams. Line the cups up on a table so that one cup is situated in front of each player. Fill each cup with your choice of beer. Once all of the players are seated, an announcer will start the game by declaring “1-2-3 drink!” The first person on each team must go to their cup, drink the entire contents, and then place the cup right side up on the edge of the table. The person who has consumed the beverage then must use one hand to flip the cup so that it is in an upside down position. If the first attempt fails, the cup must be reset and re-flipped. The player will have to continue in this manner until the cup is flipped. Once the first player has successfully finished his or her task, the second player will follow suit.

Whichever team finishes drinking their beverage and flipping all of the cups first is declared the winner. If a player is caught using two hands to flip their cup, the cup must be re-flipped or a mistrial can be called and the game would restart. If there is a tie and the last two players flip their cups at the same time, the player whose cup hit the table first is declared winner.
