Asheville Beer Week 2014: Quarters

Asheville Beer Week continues, and so does our ‘drinking game a day’ series. Following FUBAR, we present to you another classic – quarters. While there are many variations on the original gameplay, we decided to stick with the bare bones. Feel free to add more rules or unexpected twists and turns to make the gameplay more fun.

You Will Need: Pints of beer, a quarter, and an empty shallow juice type glass
Ideal Number of Players: 2+
To Play: Sit in a circle around a table. During your turn, attempt to bounce the quarter off of the surface of the table and into the empty glass. If successful, the player who bounced the quarter can dictate that anyone at the table must take a drink. The player then take another turn. If you the quarter does not make it into the glass, the person sitting to the right of the current player takes his or her turn.

If a player is lucky enough to bounce the quarter into the glass three times in a row, that player is then allowed to create a rule – anything goes. If this rule is broken during any play, the rule breaker must then chug a pint.

Please join Sierra Nevada Brewing Company upstairs at the Thirsty Monk as we explore the senses and the way we sense the very beer we drink. Come see, or not see at all, the way every sense plays into the beer drinking experience each of us have. This will be a guided tasting in which the taster (you) will be blindfolded at times and led through the dynamic world of tasting beer without the aid of your sight. Experience what you truly gather about the beer in your hand from sight and just how in-tune to that information the rest of your sense really are. The tasting will be led by Sierra Nevada’s own Beer Ambassador, Bill Manley.
