The Asheville Harry Potter Alliance is at it again! They have put together a benefit show to raise funds for Our VOICE, the non-profit crisis intervention and prevention agency serving victims of sexual violence.
Like many discussions of late, the idea was born from the WL scandal (we won’t go into that again). The idea was to have a show with awesome women wrockers to help benefit such an amazing organization, and to show that sexual violence and misogyny are worse than the Unforgivable Curses.
What’s wrock, you may ask? I’m sure you’re familiar with fanfiction and fanart. Wrock, or wizard rock, is pretty much fanfiction in a musical format. After the release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, fans finally knew what popular music in the wizarding world sounded like. Hence the birth of wizard rock in our muggle world. Bands like Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, and many others have been casting their spell over fans for years.
Now you can check out three wrock acts, benefit a great cause, and dance your ass off at the Asheville Harry Potter Alliance Charity Ball. March 19th, head over to Sol Bar at New Mountain. Doors open at 6:45, show starts at 7. Acts are Jarrod Perkins from Gred and Forge (not a lady wrocker, but he’s still dope), Grace Kendall from Snidget, and Hawthorn & Holly. Tickets are $10, with 100% of proceeds going to Our VOICE.
