Asheville Sessions: Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats

Asheville Sessions: The River Rats

The River Rats formed in Asheville around early 2011 as a street busking project. Jumpstarted from several songs written by local singer/songwriter Andrew Scotchie, The River Rats have evolved from a stripped down guitar and harmonica duo to 5 piece rock soul and blues band. Based in music mecca of Asheville and fronted by Andrew Scotchie (guitars/vocals), the River Rats are currently on tour of the Southeast and are supporting 2 records: “Soul and Sarcasm” the bands first studio release of 2012 and the 2013 release of “BARNAROO BOOTLEG” a live record showcasing the bands’ unique live energy.

The River Rats can best be described as Funkin’ Rock Soul and blues with a southern twist. The band consists of: Will Bridges on bass/vocals, Alex Bradely on trumpet, Eliza Hill playing drums and Kyle Snuffer playing trombone/trumpet. This young group is seriously rocking, and was recently voted one of the Best of WNC’s top 3 local bands.

What The River Rats bring to the table: A level of respect and work ethic that is almost unexpected among their age group. The River Rats are appreciative and want to work for everything they have. Whether its show at a bar or a show at a music hall in their home town, The River Rats can be expected to rock as it was their last show on earth. Check out this session filmed at Franny’s Farm – the song featured is a River Rats original and will be available on their next album.
