Nick Dittmeier and The Sawdusters

Nick Dittmeier and The Sawdusters

After a short break, Asheville Sessions is back! We've been busy filming some amazing bands that we cannot wait to show you in 2015. The first band to help us kick off the new year is Nick Dittmeier and The Sawdusters. These guys hail from Southern Indiana, and are affectionately referred to as alternative country. We met up with Zane, Nick, and Aaron during their last time in Asheville and set them up at an iconic spot in Asheville that is perfect for recording. They delighted us with a stripped down version of their song My Grey Suite off of their new album The Light of Day.

Asheville has been making top 10 lists for years, driving tourists to our fair city by the droves. As much as the locals complain about tourist season, people understand that tourism dollars are a crucial part of Asheville's annual budget. It always makes us feel warm fuzzes inside seeing the city we love top another list. When the reasons for being added to the list are grossly misleading, however, it can make those warm fuzzies turn into seeds of rage.

Toy Drive for the Animals of Brother Wolf

Almost as much a tradition as the holidays themselves, donation drives are in full swing this time of year. We love being able to give back to the community and support a variety of causes that directly impact the people of Asheville and Western North Carolina. Being the animal lovers that we are, the staff here at AshevilleBlog decided to help spread some holiday cheer and support a great local nonprofit all at the same time. Our elves have placed 7 boxes around town at local pet friendly businesses. On Christmas Eve we will collect all donations from each business, and drop the bounty off to the dogs and cats waiting for a new home at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. This way, our furred friends can share in the holiday joy with receiving their own presents on Christmas day!

Asheville Sessions: Ha Ha Tonka

From the plains of Springfield, Missouri, this indie rock band made their Asheville debut at The Grey Eagle in the River Arts District. Ha Ha Tonka is a collective of four extremely talented young men playing soulful Ozark Mountain music with a mixture of college rock. The name Ha Ha Tonka is a nod to the boys Ozark pride, as Ha Ha Tonka is a state park in southwestern Missouri. When we caught up with them to record this session before their show at The Grey Eagle, we were instantly captivated by how harmoniously these guys worked together. It was almost effortless on their part, and it made the filming all that more natural.
