The Artist’s Routine

Art and life are one in the same. One without the other is equally meaningless, because it is only through life that we can appreciate art and it is only through art that we can express life. As such, the artist’s routine is something unique. A balance between seeing the world as beautiful and seeing it as ugly, and knowing that there is beauty in ugliness just as beautiful things can be horrid. To live as an artist, you need to keep both eyes wide open. You need to be open to experiences, and you need to live as both an observer and as a participant.

Most artists, of course, must also be content with other responsibilities as well. Finding a balance between routine, work and finding your muse doesn’t have to be a struggle. Rather, all it requires is a focus on energy-inducing habits and better productivity. From there, focus on experiencing life more vividly, and you will have all the inspiration you could need.

Improving Your Responsibilities

Working on something other than your art is part of life. Very few artists are paid enough to take their passions full-time, and as such many of us need to find a way to balance our aspirations. Start by eating healthy and exercising more. Not only will this help improve your cognitive function, but it will also make you feel better in general. This, in turn, will help you work better. Combine this improved mental faculty with 90-minute working intervals, after which you take a break, and then work on another task entirely. This will help reduce the mental fatigue and make it easier to work more productively.

Read

Once you have improved how productive you are with your responsibilities, it is time to expand your horizons. Reading is one of the best ways to do this, and with everything that you learn, more inspiration will come naturally to you. Read fiction, poetry, non-fiction, articles, and essays. Read in your spare time and on your commute. The more you read, the more about the world will open itself up to you. Art cannot exist without life, after all, and by knowing more about lives that are different to yours, you can find new ways to express yourself.

Engage with the World

Art is not passive. It is expressive, and in order to find new ways to express yourself you need to get out there and engage with the world. Spend the time with your friends, laugh, have fun trying to escape from the Syracuse Escape Room, or try out blind dining – whatever you choose, make it new. Chase new experiences and learn new things every day, and you won’t just know more about the world, you will feel more about the world.

Be Disciplined

Having all the inspiration and ideas in the world won’t help you unless you can translate those into art. That is why discipline for your own passions is key. Take what you know and what you have experienced and create every day. A little work will go a long way, whether you are writing, or painting, sculpting or sewing. Be disciplined, and you can use your life as the inspiration you need to create wondrous things.

Water is refreshing. Water moistens your eyes. Water keeps your skin healthy by clearing toxins. Water is required for optimum digestion. The frequent occurrences of these W’s suggest how important role water plays in keeping you healthy.

Often during vigorous physical activities, or conditions such as diarrhea, vomiting, excessive sweating, diabetes, frequent urination you lose a lot of water and dehydrate your body. It causes an imbalance between salt and sugar in your body that can affect your normal functioning.

Though you can treat mild dehydration by increasing water and fluid intake, the severe shortage of fluids in the body is life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.

Here are 10 signs that indicate your body lacks water:

  • Thirst

If you feel thirsty, it is one very obvious and early sign your body lacks water.

Replenish your body with water immediately as severe symptoms can cause unconsciousness and other serious problems.

Prefer drinking structured or filtered water over tap water to replace the fluid you’ve lost. Avoid artificially sweetened beverages.

  • Dark Yellow or Amber Colored Urine, Not Urinating Frequently

Your body releases toxins through urination.

According to BelMarraHealth, clear or light-colored urine indicates that you have enough water in your body. But dark yellow or amber colored urine usually hints you lack water.

A healthy person normally urinates 7 to 8 times in a day. If you are not urinating frequently, it means you are not drinking enough water.

You may also decrease urination because of some conditions causing a chemical imbalance in your body. Replace the lost fluid by drinking more water in that case.

  • Dry Skin:

If your body lacks water, you may see dryness, small lines or scales on your skin surface. A well-hydrated skin is smooth, supple and shows good elasticity.

Severe dermal dehydration may deplete dermis resulting in deeper wrinkles that can be seen on the surface of your skin.

So when you experience your skin doesn’t bounce back on pinching into a fold, get alarmed and start taking enough fluids and water.

  • Dry Mouth, Cracked Lips and Sunken Eyes

According to Webmd, when your body lacks water the saliva becomes thick leading to dryness in the mouth. You may also experience dry and cracked lips due to the shortage of water in your body.

Water also lubricates your eyes. When you don’t have enough fluids it can cause itchiness, dryness, sunken eyes and you get no tears on crying.

  • Headache

A headache is one common sign your body doesn’t have enough water.

According to Fabhow, shortage of water in your body affects the serotonin levels in your body which may cause a headache and worsen a migraine.

When your body doesn’t have enough water, it makes blood more concentrated. Due to this inflammatory protein circulating in the blood start irritating the nerves surrounding your brain.

So next time you have a headache, the first thing you should do is to drink water.

  • Muscle Cramps

Sports and other vigorous physical activities can cause depletion of fluids from your body through perspiration.

When water surrounding the nerves that connect to the muscles reduces they become hypersensitive. It causes muscles to contract or spasm involuntarily leading to cramps.

Shortage of water triggers changes in the adequate level of electrolytes, sodium and potassium which can cause muscle cramping.

  • Low Blood Pressure, Rapid Heartbeat

If you experience a rapid heartbeat than usual, it may be a sign your body is asking for more water. Lack of water causes changes in electrolytes present in your body and lowers blood pressure. It puts extra stress on your body leading to an abnormal heartbeat.

  • Dizziness

You may feel dizzy if you’re doing a physical activity in hot weather without having enough fluids.

Since your body is directing a lot of blood to muscles, your brain is not getting enough blood flow. Also, vigorous activities increase your body’s temperature and breathing rate which causes blood vessels in your brain to expand leading to dizziness.

  • Fatigue:

Fatigue, low mood and inability to focus also indicate your body lacks water.

A 2012 study published in The Journal of Nutrition suggests that mild dehydration affects the mood in healthy women as they experienced fatigue, lower concentration and headache symptoms.

So if you’re feeling a bit exhausted (especially after a workout) drink a glass of water or another type of refreshing drink to fight dehydration.

  • Bad Breath

The anaerobic bacteria feeding on the food particles stuck in between your teeth or crevices cause bad breath. Saliva of your mouth contains antibacterial properties that eliminate bacteria causing bad breath.

A 2012 study published in The International Journal of Oral Science suggests that on dehydration your body is not able to produce enough saliva. In this way, you may see an overgrowth of bacteria in your mouth leading to bad breath.

So when you experience a dry mouth, increase your water intake to stimulate saliva and reduce bad breath.

How to prevent dehydration:

  • Drink plenty of water (at least 2 liters) and other fluids every day.
  • If you have fever, vomiting, or diarrhea increase the intake of fluids to prevent severe dehydration.
  • Consult your doctor immediately if you see severe signs of dehydration such as extreme thirst, shriveled skin, dizziness, and tiredness, not passed urine for 8 hours, rapid or weak pulse, fits or a low level of unconsciousness.

It’s Happy Hour at the WNC Nature Center

On Friday, May 11 from 5:30-8:00PM the WNC Nature Center will host the first Brews and Bears event of their 2018 season! Due to the popularity of this after-hours event, there will be three occurrences this year: May 11, July 13, and September 14.

“Brews and Bears has sold out each year we’ve had it, and people enjoy it so much. This year we added two more dates to make sure that everyone who wants to join in can do so,” said Kelly Shanafelt, Executive Director of the Friends of the WNC Nature. The fundraiser gives attendees the rare opportunity to visit the Nature Center past 5PM. “Many of our animals are more active in the evening and guests really enjoy seeing them in this different setting,” said Shanafelt.

The May 11 happy hour celebration will feature beer from Highland Brewing Company and cider from Black Mountain Ciderworks. Food will be available for purchase from Melt Your Heart and The Hop Ice Cream Co. There will be music and yard games, and guests will have the chance to view an exciting enrichment activity for black bears, Uno and Ursa.

Admission to Brews & Bears is $8 for Friends of the WNC Nature Center members, and $10 for non-members. The event is intended primarily for adults, although youth are welcome to attend with the purchase of a ticket. Children under 2 are free. Tickets are available online at www.wildwnc.org/event or in person at the Center. Proceeds from both ticket and beverage sales will go to support the Friends of the WNC Nature Center. The May 11th Brews and Bears event is sponsored by Carolina Alliance Bank, Festiva, and The Biltmore Company.

The Friends’ mission is to support the programs, facilities and the residents of the Western North Carolina Nature Center, which showcases the fauna and flora of the southern Appalachian region. The WNC Nature Center connects people with the animals and plants of the Southern Appalachian Mountain region by inspiring appreciation, nurturing understanding, and advancing conservation of the region’s rich biodiversity. Some like having a gym instructor; especially those who are new to the gym. An instructor guides fitness trainees on how to go about their workouts to achieve their fitness objectives. An instructor also ensures that gym-goers safely perform their exercises to avoid possible injuries to themselves and others within the facility. Gym-goers need to take their exercises consistently and observe a healthy diet to obtain the desired results. In addition, they can make use of novorapid, which is quick acting insulin used to enhance the growth of muscles in athletes involved in bodybuilding.

What are some of the signs that indicate you are ready to rise above the rest of your team and become a group fitness instructor? Read on for a discussion on the subject.

  1.      You prefer a group fitness workout

If you were given the opportunity to choose, you would pick group workout activities over other individual activities like hitting the elliptical machine. Comradeship and the competition that is part of group activity motivate you and energize you. You feel happiest when you are surrounded by people.

  1.      You regularly invite people to exercise with you

A mark of great leaders is leading by example. You must be quite inspiring to gather people to train with you. It is also a sign you know how to bring out the best in others, and this shows you can be a good fitness instructor for groups.

  1.      Learning excites you

You believe that to be a good teacher, you must be an ardent student. The fitness industry is very dynamic with new things emerging daily, like how to make training interesting and do away with monotony. There are numerous opportunities that include gaining knowledge on how to teach certain formats, designing and redesigning classes, choosing the best music for various sessions, and many others.

  1.      You like motivating and inspiring others

You can see the positive abilities in others and give them encouragement for even the smallest achievements. You go out of your way to get tips and recipes on Pinterest or other social sites and share them with others. You have fitness photographs on your pages on your social sites such as Instagram.

  1.      You do not fear challenges

You are quick in accepting your mistakes, and laugh at yourself easily. Adapting to your environment is not a problem for you. You can easily play several roles concurrently like being a teacher, motivator, and a funny guy to keep the class lively.

  1.      You take diversity into your stride

Irrespective of what you do, be it a stay-at-home parent, a teacher, or work in an office, you can find excitement leading a fitness class. Fitness club sessions are spread throughout the whole day and night, seven days a week, so whatever time is convenient for you, you can fix the session.

  1.      You want to be known widely as a fitness expert

It is not necessary to have previous fitness professional experience to become a fitness trainer. Many personal trainers manage to get a good number of clients from instructing group fitness classes. You get to become a better personal trainer if you also start handling group fitness classes.

  1.      You desire to change the world

In a single one-hour session, you get to touch many lives and change them for the better when you are a group fitness instructor. You get to walk the talk by helping people enjoy physical activity. You inspire people to live better and healthier by helping them be proud of themselves.

How to Become a Brilliant Essay Writer: 8 Practical Tips for Self-Improvement

Are you the writer who always tries to become better than you were yesterday? If you are interested in the personal growth and self-improvement, then these practical tips will be of great use to you. If writing is your calling, you should know that the natural talent means much but not everything. In order to become successful in any sphere, including the essay writing, you need to do your best to gain new knowledge on the regular basis.

There is no time to rest as there is always a room for self-improvement. If you have a goal to become the brilliant essay helper for college and university students, you should master innovative writing techniques and follow tips on how to organize the writing process so that it becomes more effective.

Simple Tips That Will Help to Improve Your Writing Skills Quickly

If you have a strong wish to improve your essay writing skills but don’t know how to get started, you are welcome to get acquainted with the effective recommendations. Following the tips below, you will notice how your essays become more original, unique, and error-free.

  • Build your style of writing reading other’s essays. You may be a good writer but there is always someone who does this better than you. Instead of being envious of the success and talents of others, use their pieces of writing to improve your own essay writing skills.

Reading the high-quality works of professional writers, you are able to build your own style, evaluate how good your own essays are. Remember that there is no such a specialist who knows everything and doesn’t need to improve his skills. If to think that you are the best of the best and not set new goals, you will never reach success.

  • Listen to the opinion of experts. It is great if you have an opportunity to ask an expert working in the same sphere as you to get acquainted with your work. This is necessary in order you can find out what others think about your writing because the author can’t be objective.
  • Learn new terms and definitions every day. Each person, whether he is a native speaker or not, should enrich his vocabulary. Like dictionaries, people have the different number of words they use. Some know several hundreds of words while others have an aim to operate with several thousands of terms. The writer is a specific profession as compared to the secretary or a salesperson, he should have the richer vocabulary, especially if the essay writer wants to develop projects in different subject fields.
  • Revise grammar rules from time to time. First, this piece of advice may seem funny to you as you may think: “I know how to write without grammar mistakes”. But as practice shows, many writers make spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes when they have a flow of thoughts. That’s why you should remind yourself that it is necessary to edit the paper when it is finished. And don’t forget about the high-quality proofreading. However, there is one nuance if you use the help of automatic computer programs.
  • Develop a habit to make an outline of each piece of writing. A lot of writers think that is just a waste of time to write a plan for a paper as nobody will check it. You should understand that there are many things you should do for your personal growth. When making an outline of an essay, you learn to organize your thoughts in the proper way.
You can’t become an outstanding writer if such terms like planning and structuring aren’t familiar to you.
  • Attend seminars/online webinars/self-improvement training. If you want to have more satisfied customers, you should definitely have a training conducted by experienced writers. Sharing experience is the most effective method to understand what you need to improve.
  • Manage time effectively. Time management is the ability that not everyone can boast with. If you know how to do this, you will be able to organize your work effectively. The lack of time may negatively influence the quality of writing, that’s why you should always evaluate the level of difficulty of the paper and allocate the necessary time for the research.
  • Practice, practice, and practice. There is no a secret formula for the brilliant essay writing. However, even if there was such, its main component would be the practice. The more you write, the better your skills become. It is great if you have your blog, or a habit to write a diary. The main idea is to express your thoughts on different topics and create logical pieces of writing.

It is obvious that a good writer should have fabulous storytelling skills, which you can develop only practicing. If you are creative, motivated and have a zest for writing, you have all necessary features to succeed. Add to this combination of great qualities the ability to follow helpful tips from experts, and you will see the personal growth as a writer very quickly.

“a genre-defying fusion of multi-faceted noise…Multiple harmonies coalesce into something curiously outlandish yet remarkably concise…yet completely accessible.” – CLASH

Elektra Records North Carolina-based quintet Rainbow Kitten Surprise have released a new song “Holy War,” from their upcoming label debut album “HOW TO: FRIEND, LOVE, FREEFALL,” which arrives everywhere on Friday, April 6th. Listen to “Holy War” HERE and watch the accompanying music video, which premiered yesterday via CLASH, on Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s official YouTube channel HERE.

“The first demo I have for ‘Holy War’ is from December 2015,” says lead vocalist, Sam Melo.  “The lyrics were tongue-in-cheek, even a little humorous at the time.  Over the past few years, those same words have become more ominous – something that has caused me to wrestle with the value of passionate belief.”

Produced by GRAMMY® Award winner Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Sleeper Agent), “HOW TO: FRIEND, LOVE, FREEFALL” is available for pre-order now HERE. The album launch kicked off last month with the release of its first single, “Fever Pitch.” The track is accompanied by an equally rousing companion visual – watch HERE.

Hailed as one of the most eclectic and exciting live acts in recent memory, Rainbow Kitten Surprise will herald “HOW TO: FRIEND, LOVE, FREEFALL” with their biggest North American headline tour thus far. “The Friend, Love, Freefall Tour” gets underway March 29th and 30th with a very special two night stand at Atlanta, GA’s Terminal West and then travels the continent through mid-May (see attached itinerary). With tickets still on sale now, the tour has already sold out dates in 16 markets, upgraded venues in 5 cities and added second shows in Raleigh, New York, and Denver. For complete details and ticket information, please visit www.rksband.com/tour.

With their chilling harmonies, dynamic instrumentation, and introspective lyrics, Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s genre-defying sound takes equal influence from artists like Modest Mouse and Kings of Leon as it does Frank Ocean and Schoolboy Q. The Boone, NC-based band has proven an independent sensation, with over 75 million streams across digital platforms and over 45 sold out shows on their first U.S. headline tour.

2017 saw Rainbow Kitten Surprise lighting up the North American festival circuit with their always engaging live performances, including stand out sets at such events as Bonnaroo, Firefly, Shaky Knees, Hangout, Sasquatch, and Austin City Limits, among others. “Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s on stage presence and performance are second to none,” enthused The Huffington Post. “The band’s performance comes across as flurry of frenzied motion set to the sounds their own melodically guitar driven rock ’n’ roll that one simply can’t look away from.” Likewise, Paste Magazine raved how RKS frontman Sam Melo “…truly excels as a showman, selling every song with his undeniable stage presence and full-throated vocals,” and praised the band for “…earning every bit of their steadily swelling buzz.”

Rainbow Kitten Surprise is: Sam Melo (lead vocals); Darrick “Bozzy” Keller (guitar, vocals); Ethan Goodpaster (lead guitar, vocals); Charlie Holt (bass, vocals); Jess Haney (drums).

Bitcoin – the cryptocurrency that makes headlines almost every day. First, news about its meteoric rise in value was there in every nook and corner of each and every news daily. Thereafter, the news about its drastic plunge in value made headlines. It is getting, increasingly, difficult to predict the future of the trending cryptocurrency keeping in view its volatility.

Bitcoin came up in 2009 and since then its popularity is on the rise. Being the first decentralized digital currency, it instantly turned heads as persons transacting in bitcoin needn’t reveal their personal or private information and neither there was a central authority controlling it. With the introduction of ‘Bitcoin,’ the other technology which made its debut was ‘Blockchain’ which is a public ledger in which record of every transaction made through bitcoins is preserved.

Now, if we take into account the overall performance, Bitcoin is the most popular of all other cryptocurrencies and if we talk about 100 best cryptocurrencies then Bitcoin, in spite of the ups and downs it had, undoubtedly holds one of the top spots.

Paper Money & Coins Are Going Obsolete

In reality, paper money and coins are largely been replaced by digital methods of transaction. More and more people are in the possession of debit cards, credit cards, digital wallets as they are quite comfortable to carry and convenient to use rather than carrying a pile of currency notes or heap of coins. The fact that makes people interested in Bitcoins is the lack of a central authority controlling it, anonymity and usage across international borders. Transactions settled in Bitcoins needn’t pass through an intermediary like banks.

Bitcoin Being Used As a Vault Storing Financial Value

As of now, not many transactions are done in Bitcoins as only about 1% of the world’s population is using it. Out of this 1%, the majority of the persons are storing Bitcoins as a vault storing some financial value rather than a mode of making payments.

Overall, a large amount of money is stored in the form of bitcoins. But, the volatility associated with keeping bitcoins as a financial storage is keeping people away from using it. We can’t predict as to what will be the value of bitcoin when we wake up the next day.

Transactions Speed Associated with Bitcoin

Another reason for which Bitcoin is receiving a lot of flak from cryptocurrency users is the slow transaction speed. As the number of transactions is increasing the speed associated with the full and final settlement of the transaction is decreasing.

This is the area where Bitcoin needs to improve if it wants to gain a potential stronghold over money flows in the economy in the near future. Consequently, two solutions to this problem were proposed; Bitcoin Cash and Segwit2x. Both the solutions plan to make certain alterations in the blockchain. For example, Bitcoin Cash increases the size of each block from 1 MB to 8 MB while on the other hand, Segwit2x aims to transfer a considerable amount of data on to a parallel chain and eventually doubling the block size to 2 MB.

Increase in the Number of Merchants Accepting Bitcoin

Bitcoin, due to its popularity, in recent years, has made several retailers and merchants to accept it as a mode of payment. As of now, Bitcoin, as a mode of payment, is being accepted by big names like Subway, Xbox, Reddit and even McDonalds.

If Bitcoin has to become a mode of payment for more retailers and merchants then, definitely, it requires involving a significant percentage of world’s population in its usage. If more people use and recommend merchants to build up the infrastructure required for accepting payments through Bitcoin, then only more businesses will involve themselves in investing in the needed technology for accepting Bitcoins as a payment channel.

As of now, there is no consumer demand for acknowledging Bitcoin as a payment channel. Even the retailers and the merchants who are accepting Bitcoins in exchange of their products or services are largely doing so in order to rack up some of the PR value and not because it has some associated gains for them or for the consumer.

Persons who are using bitcoins, an extremely small percentage as compared to the world’s population, don’t want to spend their bitcoins in exchange of some products or services as the value of bitcoin is highly unpredictable and unreliable.

Hence, reiterating the statements said in above sections that there is no demand from consumers on merchants for accepting payments via Bitcoin and whoever is holding Bitcoin, is largely holding it as a storage product of a relative financial value.

Conclusion

So is Bitcoins the future of payments? The answer to this question can’t be said in a simple ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ but seeing the current trends and the volume of transactions done in Bitcoins, it can be safely said that cryptocurrencies do have a long and favorable future.

As more and more Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) are coming up we don’t know and neither can we say how the banks will involve themselves in cryptocurrencies, how the transfer from current payment systems will happen and how the cryptocurrency strategies will be laid down.

Since the usage of Bitcoins completely removes and eliminates the need of middlemen in full and final settlement of the transactions the middlemen will, definitely, try to evolve themselves and offer services in a much better way.

But the real opportunity lies in ‘Co-existence’. With the implementation of bitcoins as a mode of payment on a considerably large scale, it will definitely reduce the amount of pressure that is there on the existing payment channels thereby improving their services. Plus, it is not the case that bitcoins will completely rule the money flow and other payment channels will become obsolete. Bitcoins will just add to the existing modes of making payments. The idea is that everyone should be free to choose their own favorable mode of payment. As of now, it is still a long way to go so let’s wait and watch.

Curious Creatures – 6 Surprising Facts about Common Pets http://ashevilleblog.com/curious-creatures-6-surprising-facts-common-pets/ http://ashevilleblog.com/curious-creatures-6-surprising-facts-common-pets/#respond Mon, 12 Mar 2018 18:20:41 +0000 http://ashevilleblog.com/?p=11510 Domesticated animals are as unique and complex as humans. Domesticated animals are as unique and complex as humans. Have you ever wondered about some of the things they do? Like your dog, for example. How does he always seem to outrun you? And your cat – he’s smart, but how long can he actually remember something? What about your pet bird? Why does it seem like he’s always eating?

For answers to these questions and more, keep reading below for six surprising facts about common pets.

  1. Horses Wear Boots, too

A horse’s hoof is, in fact, a single toe. Imagine how delicate a proposition it is to balance all that weight on a single digit! If not protected and maintained, hooves are susceptible to damage and disease. Some horse owners put horseshoes on their horses’ hooves, and others use hoof boots for horses. Hoof boots are an alternative to horseshoes. They are designed to dramatically improve hoof health as they protect from damage and diseases such as laminitis and more.

  1. Fido for the Win

Domesticating the canine has done little to deter the animal’s natural inclination for speed. Many pet dogs (depending on the breed and size, of course) can reach speeds up to 19 miles per hour or more. The average human runs between 8 and 15 miles per hour, depending on age, gender, and physical condition. Fido wins pretty much every time.

  1. Fluffy Remembers Everything

Cats have a reputation for being smart, cunning, and stubborn. As it turns out, they also tend to remember things longer than other animals including the dog, monkey, and orangutan. A dog only remembers small details for about five minutes. A cat, on the other hand, can retain short-term memory for up to 16 hours. This is probably why cats are so smart and independent.

  1. Feed Me More!

Birds are fascinating creatures with huge appetites. If your little parakeet seems to spend most of its day eating, or you go through mountains of seed feeding the birds outside, don’t worry, it’s natural. Birds have quick metabolisms that require they eat as much as half their body weight in seed every single day. Can you imagine if we had to eat like that? We might be happy, but we’d never get anything else done!

  1. Look but Don’t Touch

Despite the widely-held notion that pet snakes are cool and love nothing more than hanging around one’s neck, snakes are not really the touchy-feely type. They prefer to be left alone, and placing one around your neck is just asking for trouble. Having said that, snake experts agree that handling a snake for a few minutes each day helps it get used to you so feeding time and cage cleaning is less stressful for the animal. Having a snake is kind of like that pretty girl or guy you fawned over in high school but couldn’t bring yourself to ask out: look but don’t touch.

  1. Say My Name!

Many people think hamsters can’t be taught. While their ability to remember is quite limited, they do have the ability to get used to their names. Talk to your hamster and say his name as often as possible, and he’ll learn to respond when he hears it.

Our domesticated pets are a deceptively sophisticated  bunch, with varied personalities and unique traits. From hoof boots for horses to snakes that don’t like to be held, they keep us entertained and happy. Do you have any unusual facts about common pets you’d like to add?

A report from research carried out by an individual world-renown magazine revealed that most truck drivers complain about the invasive monitoring devices being placed in the trucks they are driving.

On the contrary, fleet operators, alongside other relevant stakeholders in the transport business, argue that they are installing these gadgets to improve the safety of the truck, driver, and other road users. An example of these systems is Elog from EyeRide, a company that prides itself on manufacturing all-in-one truck management systems. All-in-one tracking systems have a video camera surveillance system, remote braking system, and other gadgets to keep an eye on the truck’s and driver’s activities.

The bone of contention arises from the video camera surveillance. This issue brings to question whether these systems are going a little bit overboard by infringing the limits of personal privacy. When it comes to this, courts have always ruled against the drivers, arguing that drivers have limited rights to privacy during working hours.

GPS Location Tracker Devices and Driver’s Wellbeing

The sole task of this system is to track and locate the vehicle’s location and movements whenever needed. Apart from this, these systems take and keep records of the engine performance, mileage, and fuel consumption, to name a few things. This information can be stored for a long duration of time, thus providing a source of reference to fleet managers, should they need to refer to it later on.

Studies by highway authorities show that rigs are responsible for approximately 11% of deadly road accidents. Out of the 11%, an astonishing 87% of the accidents were a result of driver’s error. The driver errors were categorized into four major categories: performance, non-performance, recognition, and decision.

When it comes to matters dealing with protection, these systems can notify in time the relevant personnel in case an issue arises, for example, engine malfunction or brake failure.

Are these Systems Spying on the Drivers?

As discussed earlier, monitoring systems record and monitor a lot of other information and complex data than the driver’s behavior. Lawyers and other legal officers also admit that the data collected from these systems can be used in a court of law to defend the driver of any wrongdoings in case of an accident.

Fleet operators also realize the need for safety records to stay afloat in the transport business. Also, the operators claimed to note a significant increase in safety measures and proper handling of their vehicles after installing the monitoring devices.

Some of these devices have the capability of rating the driver after a trip. This encourages and motivates drivers to be safety-conscious while on the road.

Introducing these telematics systems can be met with backlash from drivers. However, assure your drivers that these systems are central in ensuring the welfare of the truck and theirs, as well as other road users. When choosing the perfect fleet management and tracking system, keep in mind that it will improve the fleet and drivers’ safety, while boosting levels of productivity.
