Beer Week 2014: AnimaL

Three more days left of beer week 2014 folks! As a continuation of our beer week series, we are going to introduce you to a drinking game called AnimaL. This fast paced thinking game requires you to be quick on your feet and with your words. This is an ideal drinking game to be played as an icebreaker with a group of new friends. Grab some growlers, shot glasses, and your beer of choice and let’s play AnimaL!

You Will Need: beer (either pints or shot glasses, your choice)
Ideal Number of Players: 5+
How to Play: Once someone starts the game by saying an animal, the player to their left’s turn begins, within 30 seconds they must  say an animal that starts with the last letter of the animal that was just used (i.e. if ‘elephant’ was said, next turn someone could say ‘tiger’ because elephant ends with a ‘t’, and tiger starts with one).

Typically, different species are allowed, such as penguins and owls, but different breeds are not usually (such as different breeds of dogs). If a person can’t come up with an animal that fits and that hasn’t already been used in that game in reasonable amount of time, they lose and must take a shot or drink a pint of the drink of choice. (This can be played with hard liquor, mixed shots, or beer).

Here’s an example of how a typical game might play out:

  • 1st turn: dog
  • 2nd turn: goat
  • 3rd turn: tiger
  • 4th turn: rhino
  • 5th turn: rottweiler –> this is a breed of dog, not an animal, so they lose & must drink!
