Catawba Brewing Releases Small Batch Raspberry Sour

A special rose-colored beer for Valentine’s Day, this Small Batch Raspberry Sour is Catawba’s second kettle sour, following last summer’s popular Korean Sour Rice Ale. This refreshingly tart beer was brewed with malted barley and flaked wheat, and soured in the kettle with lactobacillus. Raspberries were then added in secondary fermentation, lending brilliant color and a gentle fruitiness to complement the clean sour base. With similarities to a Berleiner Weisse or perhaps even a rosé wine, Catawba’s Raspberry Sour (6% ABV) is balanced with a subtle underlying sweetness and minimal hop bitterness.

This is Passport Beer #6 in Catawba’s 2017 Small Batch rewards program – available in their three tasting rooms, and in limited distribution. On Sunday, Feb. 12, Catawba will have all six Passport Beers on tap at their Asheville South Slope brewery (32 Banks Ave) for anyone who missed getting stamps for previous Small Batch releases.
