Catawba Releases 3 New Collaboration Beers

Catawba brewing proudly presents three new beers that are collaboration efforts with local businesses and not for profits. Learn more about these new and limited edition releases, including the Bee Charmer Honey Mai Bock, Tangerine Wheat Ale, and the return of Pyranha Brown IPA.

Bee Charmer Honey Mai Bock

RELEASES ON JULY 9:

Bee Charmer Mai BockBee Charmer Honey Mai Bock is a collaboration with Asheville Bee Charmers.  This beer is a traditional German style Mai Bock with local Basswood honey added from the Blue Ridge Honey Company. Golden in color, it is light sweet with a balanced bitterness. It contains Basswood honey, which leaves floral and woody notes behind after all the honey sugar is fermented. This is a specialty beer brewed in Catawba’s Asheville brewery at 32 Banks Avenue.  It will be available only through Catawba Brewing’s three tasting rooms, in downtown Morganton, Biltmore village, and the South Slope of downtown Asheville.
Tasting notes: Alcoholic warming, sweet, malty, floral notes from Basswood honey.  ABV 8.15%

About Asheville Bee Charmer:
The Bee Charmer Honey Bar is located at 38 Battery Park Ave in downtown Asheville, NC. Locals have come to know this as a one stop shop for all things bee.

Tangerine Wheat Ale

RELEASES ON JULY 9:

Tangerine WheatHead Brewer, Kevin Sondey, developed a delicious Tangerine Wheat Ale recipe especially for a small group of women business partners of Catawba Brewing.  The women came to Catawba’s boutique brewery on Banks Avenue on June 20 for a special day learning the basics of how to brew beer.  Catawba’s specialty brewer, Sam Bryant, coached the women throughout the day creating an informative and fun experience, which was followed by sensory training led by Cicerone Jo Doyle, Catawba Brewing’s Beer Ambassador.  The women were treated to lunch at Buxton Hall Barbecue, and toured the other breweries of Asheville’s South Slope with coowner, Billy Pyatt.   Coowner, Jetta Pyatt, was part of the women brewing team.  The resulting beer was finished and packaged on July 6.

Catawba will donate $1.00 from every pint of the Tangerine Wheat Beer sold at the release parties in Asheville to FEAST. A total of 14 kegs will come out of this batch, and will be available mainly through Catawba Brewing Tasting Rooms.  Two sixtels of the beer will also travel to upstate SC for two special events with Catawba’s distributor, KW.  The beer will be released THIS Saturday, July 9, at noon.

About F.E.A.S.T.

Pyranha Brown IPA

RELEASES ON JULY 16:

pyranha kayak brown IPAThe triumphant return of Pyranha Brown IPA is on July 16, 2016! Pyranah Brown IPA is a collaboration between Pyranah Mouldings and Catawba Brewing Company. Several of Catawba’s key staff members are avid whitewater paddlers, so a collaboration with Asheville’s Pyranah Kayaks only seems natural. (Pyranah’s North American headquarters is located in Asheville on the French Broad River.) Pyranah Brown IPA gets the brown color from a blend of crystal and black malts. It is generously hopped with Mosaic and Cascade to give it a plethora of tropical and stone fruit flavors and aromas. It weighs in at 6% ABV.  For the first time, Pyranha Brown IPA will be available in cans.
