Catawba Brewing Company: Another Look

Barrels at Catawba Brewing Co

My fellow beer blogger, Mia Pedersen, began our series with her grand opening day assessment of the new Catawba Brewery on Asheville's “South Slope” (http://ashevilleblog.com/a-taste-of-catawbas-new-brewery/).  Our intent is to provide friendly beer banter, fully expecting that the weekly beer world perspectives of a female in her early twenties and this “ol' man” might not always mesh.  We'll provide insight to various beer-related fests and events, as well as reviewing the brews we sample.  We hope you enjoy our differences as we both report on Asheville's ever-exciting craft beer news, sometimes lauding great praise while at other times taking-to-task those who deserve it.

Highland Brewing’s New Seasonal Beer Lost Cove Coming Soon

Lost Cove

Get lost this summer with Lost Cove American Pale Ale, a new seasonal beer from Highland Brewing coming in May. Rising temperatures in the South are the perfect setting for this delicately nuanced brew. Lost Cove’s pilsner malt imparts a light body with low bitterness and 4.5% alcohol by volume, accented by the fruit aromas of Cascade hops and the mild fruit and spice accents of Hallertau, a German noble hop. Head Brewer Hollie Stephenson said, “Lost Cove is a thirst quenching, fun, light, sessionable beer with grassy German hops and citrusy American hops. This beer is interesting, its backbone is pilsner malt from the American Midwest, and we fermented it with our house ale yeast, creating a unique spin on an American pale. I’m looking forward to drinking one in the Meadow!”

Introducing the Asheville Bar Fly

Asheville Bar Fly

Hi sweet lovely fellow semi conscious almost always hungover kindred spirits in a rocks glass!  I am your voluptuous, rowdy, randy and almost always tipsy friend the Asheville Bar Fly!  A sparkly, glittery half drunk version of course, but not one that will be easily pigeon holed.  My persona is about as ADD as my focus on the task at hand... just know that you are loved, you are important and you will be a more informed drunk each week after our session.   The back wash of the back story begins long ago in a bar room far away.
