Asheville Beer Week: Beer Blogger Choice Events Finale

It's been a pleasantly exhausting ABW to this point. After the opening fest-focused weekend, the past few days have centered on many smaller tasting events and beer dinners, culminating in last night's Goose Island specialty beers tapping (2013 Lolita, 2014 Bourbon County Brand Barleywine, The Illinois) at Appalachian Vintner (745 S. Biltmore) and the Not So Big BIG Beer Fest at Thirsty Monk's future brewery location near Biltmore Village (92 Thompson St.), where that line-up even included the prized Westbrook Mexican Cake. Last year was my first Asheville Beer Week experience, and this year the only thing that would excite me more than the 9-day 2015 Asheville Beer Week (May 22-30) would be a 31-day Asheville Beer Month! While a full month of May filled with special beer events would put my stamina and “party grampa” (#partygrampa) status to the test, I believe I'd be up for the challenge. Asheville Outdoor Center Hosts Sunset River Arts Festival to Benefit WNC Advocacy League

In the middle of April planning began for a series of events to be held at the Asheville Outdoor Center to benefit WNC Advocacy League. The owners and staff of Asheville Outdoor Center have a deep passion and appreciation for the local arts movement, and were hoping to find a way to celebrate and promote that. They just happened to reach out at the right moment to the founder of WNC Advocacy League who is equally passionate and motivated. Together they are bringing the area the First Annual Asheville Sunset Arts Festival to be held on June 20th, 2015, from 4pm to 10pm at the Asheville Outdoor Center, right on the river at 521 Amboy Rd. Asheville.

Runners mark your calendars! The Kiwanis Club of Asheville presents the 18th Annual Kiwanis 15k/5k Classic Sunday, May 17th, 2015 at 7:15 am upon the grounds of Asheville's very own Biltmore Estate. This race draws all levels of competitors every year from across the region, and never fails to thrill onlookers as runners post fast times and battle it out from the starting gun to exciting kicks to the finish tape. Thanks to the efforts of race organizers, sponsors, and the support of local businesses, this race offers a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience year after year. The race attracts a positive influx of traffic into the local economy, and supports the good work of the Kiwanis Charities.

Asheville Wine & Food Festival’s “Amuse” Does Not Disappoint

Asheville's seventh annual Wine and Food Festival had its first phases of its culinary competition on Friday, May 1st, with "Amuse." At this pre-festival event, five chefs and six mixologists were to take an ingredient or two from an amusement park or circus and use it as inspiration to produce bite-sized original dishes. The winners of this competition will go on to compete at the Grand Tasting and Elixir later this summer.
