Almost as much a tradition as the holidays themselves, donation drives are in full swing this time of year. We love being able to give back to the community and support a variety of causes that directly impact the people of Asheville and Western North Carolina. Being the animal lovers that we are, the staff here at AshevilleBlog decided to help spread some holiday cheer and support a great local nonprofit all at the same time. Our elves have placed 7 boxes around town at local pet friendly businesses. On Christmas Eve we will collect all donations from each business, and drop the bounty off to the dogs and cats waiting for a new home at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. This way, our furred friends can share in the holiday joy with receiving their own presents on Christmas day!

The Fantastic Furry Frenzy is Black Friday, November 28th until Saturday, November 29th from 10 AM until 6 PM. Asheville Humane Society today announced that they are one of 33 animal rescue organizations receiving grant funding to participate in the 2014 ASPCA Mega Match-a-thon event, presented by Subaru, which will take place October 17-18. The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is granting a total of $220,000 to support large-scale adoption events held simultaneously nationwide in an effort to save more lives of shelter animals.

\Meet Pru, a dark-eyed, loveable Chihuahua who has taken up temporary residence at the Aloft Asheville Downtown Hotel. However exciting and full of activity, Pru’s stay may be short and sweet. Two visiting hotel guests have already applied for her adoption. Once the process is complete, Pru will pack up her paws, say good-bye to her hotel family and head to a new and permanent home.

September is historically the slowest month for adoptions and one of the busiest months in terms of animals in the care of Asheville Humane Society. In order to find homes for all the cats and kittens who need a second chance, Asheville Humane Society is dropping adoption fees to just $5.00 for five weeks. From September 2 - October 4, the challenge is to exceed the number of felines' lives saved over last September's adoption total of 145 feline adoptions.
The reduced adoption fee of $5.00 represents an exceptional value. All adoptions include spaying/neutering, current vaccines, medical and behavioral screening, microchipping, a free starter bag of food, one month of complimentary pet health insurance, and a free post-adoption veterinary office visit with a participating veterinarian. The reduced fee applies to cats and kittens of all ages.

Weighing in at a hefty 90 pounds, this handsome hunk of love is Rocky, who has lots of love to give! Rocky is a 9-year-old Collie mix who loves other dogs. Our volunteer groomer had this to say about Rocky: “He's a great dog! I found him to be happy, cooperative for grooming, easy to handle and obedient, trusting and just an all-around good dog. He's very eager to please and loves it when you praise him and pet him.” Rocky needs to lose a little weight, so he would love to go on walks with you! Please come meet this big fluffy sweetheart!
