Chimney Rock Gemstone Mine To Open At Asheville Outlets

Shoppers Will Soon Be Able to Mine for Gems

Asheville Outlets will soon be home to a new outpost for Chimney Rock Gemstone Mine. Headquartered in the Hickory Nut Gorge in historic Chimney Rock Village, the mine has long been a draw for tourists and locals alike. The Asheville Outlets mine will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22nd and will be Chimney Rock Gemstone Mine’s third location. There is also a mine and retail store in downtown Greenville, South Carolina.

“We’re excited to be able to offer shoppers another fun activity to enjoy while they’re shopping at Asheville Outlets,” said Sharon Morgan, General Manager, Asheville Outlets. “We think the gem mine will be a great addition and tons of fun, especially for families.”

Valuable gemstones are found daily and miners get to keep what they find. No experience is required and all equipment is furnished. Additionally, attendants are on hand to educate and assist in identifying and classifying every item found. Those who find a particularly beautiful or valuable stone may choose to have a piece of jewelry created on-site. It’s an entertaining activity for the whole family and every one leaves with a gemstone.

“For nearly 20 years we have enjoyed bringing a fun and exciting mining experience to the visitors of our Chimney Rock location. It has always been a big dream of ours to bring the same thing to the Asheville community,” said Chimney Rock Gemstone Mine owners, Matthew and Michelle Banz.

“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to offer the fun, educational and family-friendly experience that is gem mining to the patrons of Asheville Outlets,” they continued.

The Chimney Rock Gemstone Mine at the Asheville Outlets opens Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016 at 10 AM.

About Jill Lieberman

I grew up in Western North Carolina, and like many who grew up here, left for bigger and better things. I ended up choosing to come right back where I started. I have lived in cities from Manhattan to San Francisco to Atlanta. Asheville is my favorite. After getting a master’s degree in journalism with a public relations focus, my first job was with an agency in Greenville working on crisis communications for the hospital system. That began a career where I’ve handled almost every job there is in PR/marketing /media, from copywriter to media buyer to event planner to salesperson. I was in the trenches during the first dot com boom and bust and worked with Google before it became a verb. I’ve written regular columns for publications on beauty products and how to navigate the internet.
