What the Crop?!

Crop tops aren’t going anywhere. From the 1970s to now, the look may have changed, but it’s still a top and it’s still cropped. Here’s the thing: any young woman can wear one! It’s not just for the teens. And what’s more, you don’t have to be rail thin either! From skinny to curvy, any woman can add some crop to their top.

Screen Shot 2014-03-26 at 9.18.37 PMHave fun with this look. The trick is to not be vulgar. Many people think of the high cropped shirt and low cut jeans look, a la Miss Britney Spears. That is certainly still a look, but it may be one you’ll want to reconsider. The fun of a crop top is showing a little extra skin where you normally wouldn’t. Just like most things, when you add a little here, you need to take away there. If you’re going to show some skin up top, cover up a little more down below. Nothing low rise. Try a high waisted jean or skirt. A good rule to remember, cover the belly button. Maybe you think you have a cute one, I don’t know. But let’s just agree to disagree and just hike those pants up.

The high waisted bottoms bring me to the next point: any young woman can wear a crop top. Playing with the proportions of your body is not just a “skinny thing.” Like I said before, have fun with this! Need some curvy inspiration? Check out here and here.

Along with covering a little more of your stomach you can also cover the arms. I know, you don’t usually want to cover your arms up unless it’s cold, but how often are you bearing midriff? Just play with the proportions of your body. A sliver of skin, specifically your stomach, can be sexy but not sensual. A long sleeved crop top or a crop top with a jacket over it will make you look even more “on trend,” as they say. Not to mention, it’s chilly around here!
