Last week, Hop Along‘s new album Bark Your Head Off, Dog was released via Saddle Creek and was met with incredible critical acclaim across the board and the pond. Lead single “How Simple” has found a home on stations including Sirius XM, Sirius The Loft, WFUV, KCRW, KEXP and The Current, as well as rave reviews including Pitchfork, NPR, Esquire, Vulture, VICE’s Noisey and Stereogum.

Today, Hop Along shares the “How Simple” video, marking the first official video for the album and the first time the band has starred in a music video. The song’s joyful, kinetic energy is met with its emotional depth as viewers are immersed into the the fantastical world they create.

Frontwoman Frances Quinlan worked closely with director Derrick Belcham in creating the video. “This is my first time appearing in a music video; in which case I decided to do something that felt risky to me,” says Quinlan. “I told myself that I’ve danced through my own house solo enough times to do an alright job of it in front of a camera. All that being said, I’m still surprised that this piece came to be. I wasn’t sure I had it in me to do it. Derrick did an excellent job directing, he made it a lot easier for me to access that part of myself and made it all look dreamy in a way that I couldn’t have achieved otherwise.” Belcham shares, “Frances came to me with a fully-fleshed out idea for this video, and approached the dancing with so much enthusiasm and vulnerability, it was such a pleasure to work this thing out with her.”

Self-produced and recorded at The Headroom in Philadelphia by Reinhart and Kyle Pulley, the formidable 9-song collection is the band’s strongest and most cohesive album to date. Crafted by Frances Quinlan (songwriter, lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist), Tyler Long (bass), Joe Reinhart (guitar), and Mark Quinlan (drums), the album considers what it’s like to cast off longheld and misguided perceptions, yet without the assurance of knowing what new ones will replace them.

Hop Along will bring their dynamic, powerhouse live shows to stages across the nation this spring. Full list of tour dates below:

Water is refreshing. Water moistens your eyes. Water keeps your skin healthy by clearing toxins. Water is required for optimum digestion. The frequent occurrences of these W’s suggest how important role water plays in keeping you healthy.

Often during vigorous physical activities, or conditions such as diarrhea, vomiting, excessive sweating, diabetes, frequent urination you lose a lot of water and dehydrate your body. It causes an imbalance between salt and sugar in your body that can affect your normal functioning.

Though you can treat mild dehydration by increasing water and fluid intake, the severe shortage of fluids in the body is life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.

Here are 10 signs that indicate your body lacks water:

  • Thirst

If you feel thirsty, it is one very obvious and early sign your body lacks water.

Replenish your body with water immediately as severe symptoms can cause unconsciousness and other serious problems.

Prefer drinking structured or filtered water over tap water to replace the fluid you’ve lost. Avoid artificially sweetened beverages.

  • Dark Yellow or Amber Colored Urine, Not Urinating Frequently

Your body releases toxins through urination.

According to BelMarraHealth, clear or light-colored urine indicates that you have enough water in your body. But dark yellow or amber colored urine usually hints you lack water.

A healthy person normally urinates 7 to 8 times in a day. If you are not urinating frequently, it means you are not drinking enough water.

You may also decrease urination because of some conditions causing a chemical imbalance in your body. Replace the lost fluid by drinking more water in that case.

  • Dry Skin:

If your body lacks water, you may see dryness, small lines or scales on your skin surface. A well-hydrated skin is smooth, supple and shows good elasticity.

Severe dermal dehydration may deplete dermis resulting in deeper wrinkles that can be seen on the surface of your skin.

So when you experience your skin doesn’t bounce back on pinching into a fold, get alarmed and start taking enough fluids and water.

  • Dry Mouth, Cracked Lips and Sunken Eyes

According to Webmd, when your body lacks water the saliva becomes thick leading to dryness in the mouth. You may also experience dry and cracked lips due to the shortage of water in your body.

Water also lubricates your eyes. When you don’t have enough fluids it can cause itchiness, dryness, sunken eyes and you get no tears on crying.

  • Headache

A headache is one common sign your body doesn’t have enough water.

According to Fabhow, shortage of water in your body affects the serotonin levels in your body which may cause a headache and worsen a migraine.

When your body doesn’t have enough water, it makes blood more concentrated. Due to this inflammatory protein circulating in the blood start irritating the nerves surrounding your brain.

So next time you have a headache, the first thing you should do is to drink water.

  • Muscle Cramps

Sports and other vigorous physical activities can cause depletion of fluids from your body through perspiration.

When water surrounding the nerves that connect to the muscles reduces they become hypersensitive. It causes muscles to contract or spasm involuntarily leading to cramps.

Shortage of water triggers changes in the adequate level of electrolytes, sodium and potassium which can cause muscle cramping.

  • Low Blood Pressure, Rapid Heartbeat

If you experience a rapid heartbeat than usual, it may be a sign your body is asking for more water. Lack of water causes changes in electrolytes present in your body and lowers blood pressure. It puts extra stress on your body leading to an abnormal heartbeat.

  • Dizziness

You may feel dizzy if you’re doing a physical activity in hot weather without having enough fluids.

Since your body is directing a lot of blood to muscles, your brain is not getting enough blood flow. Also, vigorous activities increase your body’s temperature and breathing rate which causes blood vessels in your brain to expand leading to dizziness.

  • Fatigue:

Fatigue, low mood and inability to focus also indicate your body lacks water.

A 2012 study published in The Journal of Nutrition suggests that mild dehydration affects the mood in healthy women as they experienced fatigue, lower concentration and headache symptoms.

So if you’re feeling a bit exhausted (especially after a workout) drink a glass of water or another type of refreshing drink to fight dehydration.

  • Bad Breath

The anaerobic bacteria feeding on the food particles stuck in between your teeth or crevices cause bad breath. Saliva of your mouth contains antibacterial properties that eliminate bacteria causing bad breath.

A 2012 study published in The International Journal of Oral Science suggests that on dehydration your body is not able to produce enough saliva. In this way, you may see an overgrowth of bacteria in your mouth leading to bad breath.

So when you experience a dry mouth, increase your water intake to stimulate saliva and reduce bad breath.

How to prevent dehydration:

  • Drink plenty of water (at least 2 liters) and other fluids every day.
  • If you have fever, vomiting, or diarrhea increase the intake of fluids to prevent severe dehydration.
  • Consult your doctor immediately if you see severe signs of dehydration such as extreme thirst, shriveled skin, dizziness, and tiredness, not passed urine for 8 hours, rapid or weak pulse, fits or a low level of unconsciousness.

It’s Happy Hour at the WNC Nature Center

On Friday, May 11 from 5:30-8:00PM the WNC Nature Center will host the first Brews and Bears event of their 2018 season! Due to the popularity of this after-hours event, there will be three occurrences this year: May 11, July 13, and September 14.

“Brews and Bears has sold out each year we’ve had it, and people enjoy it so much. This year we added two more dates to make sure that everyone who wants to join in can do so,” said Kelly Shanafelt, Executive Director of the Friends of the WNC Nature. The fundraiser gives attendees the rare opportunity to visit the Nature Center past 5PM. “Many of our animals are more active in the evening and guests really enjoy seeing them in this different setting,” said Shanafelt.

The May 11 happy hour celebration will feature beer from Highland Brewing Company and cider from Black Mountain Ciderworks. Food will be available for purchase from Melt Your Heart and The Hop Ice Cream Co. There will be music and yard games, and guests will have the chance to view an exciting enrichment activity for black bears, Uno and Ursa.

Admission to Brews & Bears is $8 for Friends of the WNC Nature Center members, and $10 for non-members. The event is intended primarily for adults, although youth are welcome to attend with the purchase of a ticket. Children under 2 are free. Tickets are available online at www.wildwnc.org/event or in person at the Center. Proceeds from both ticket and beverage sales will go to support the Friends of the WNC Nature Center. The May 11th Brews and Bears event is sponsored by Carolina Alliance Bank, Festiva, and The Biltmore Company.

The Friends’ mission is to support the programs, facilities and the residents of the Western North Carolina Nature Center, which showcases the fauna and flora of the southern Appalachian region. The WNC Nature Center connects people with the animals and plants of the Southern Appalachian Mountain region by inspiring appreciation, nurturing understanding, and advancing conservation of the region’s rich biodiversity. You may not ever think about electricians. Though we all like to turn the lights on and plug our appliances into the outlets in the walls, it is easy for the facts to fall through and we don’t think about who set all of this up until something goes wrong. Or, you need to wire a new house and you need to find out what the best electrician would be for your area and your needs. Either way, you are looking for a qualified electrician with the knowledge and experience to help meet your goals in a short period of time.

Why Do You Need an Electrician?

Any time at all that you have to deal with electrical components in a home you will need the help of an electrical expert. This is the person you call an “electrician” and you will want them to make repairs or even to make new installations in your newer home.

Electricians need to be employed because they are licensed to do this kind of work. Electrical work is risky. It is something that requires an expert touch no matter what. If everything is not connected properly, there could be a risk of fire. The same is true if you make repairs on your own.

What an Electrician Will Do

When you call an electrician for a new job, make sure they are fully licensed. You will probably find this for sure if you contact a local service which has the more experienced electricians on board.

They will come in, look at the specs, and decide the best way to approach the issue. They will then make plans and get started with what they can. This is what companies like Mr Sparky will do.

On newer jobs, there are going to be tasks your new electrician can perform and some tasks they cannot do yet. It all depends on what stage the construction is at. It is usually part of the finish work, just before Sheetrock or other walls are set in.

Expect to have your power shut down if you have a professional working on an existing home. When you have your home checked for faulty wiring, it takes the electricians to decide how to go about making repairs. They have to do this without electrical current flowing.

Trusting the Electrician

As with any repair person coming into your home, you will want to make sure that the electrician is certified and has a good reputation to be trusted. Many of the better electrician companies will only have the best working for them, so you can rest assured.

Find the best companies online with the greatest of ease and look nearby for fast service. What you will find are the most qualified and licensed electrical technicians in your area.

Local companies make sure that you have care around the clock and it will be the best you can get. Look into the local services you have, no matter what you need from a good electrician

Plaintive, intimate and imbued with a weary grace, “Beautiful Life”, the new single from North Carolina’s the Collection, soon rises, lifting expansively to a place of hope. Though we might ultimately be tilting at windmills, we all have that spirit somewhere deep inside, ready to give its small spark, which soon builds to a fire that leads us out of our darkest places and into the sunshine of our shared humanity.

For the past 7 years, David Wimbish, along with the various iterations his band the Collection, have been charting the ebb and flow of a life seen through the eyes of a poet. Ars Moriendi, their third release – and first full-length LP – grappled with the process of coming to terms of the loss of a dear friend to suicide. Recorded when the band had well over a dozen members, the album enfolds its listeners and brings them into a ground-shaking world where they are forced to ask the same questions the members of the Collection bore through the difficult process.

A year later, Wimbish found his faith and courage left at the bottom of a spiritual well. Their next release, Listen To The River, is the story of the rope that he used to climb out; one that’s strands were made of great spiritual writers, from Rumi and Kahlil Gibran to Herman Hesse and Lao Tse.

The process that followed was a re-examination and reorientation of both his spirituality, and his marriage to member Mira Joy after mutually deciding to divorce, ultimately leading to an album created together, hoping to honor the past while accepting the present. Recoded in February 2016 at a little farm in Sophia, NC by producer Stephen Price, the band expanded on their instrument collection, adding in the new textures of Rhodes, Harp, Vibraphone, and Saxophone, among other things.

Their forthcoming release, Entropy, and its debut single “Beautiful Life”, in many ways marks a rebirth of the Collection. “After ‘Listen To The River’ came out, and my ex-wife and bandmate Mira and I split up, my car got totaled, most of my best friends moved to the west coast, I relocated cities, I was out of work, and a few other members decided their time in the band had come to a close” explains Wimbish. “I kind of thought the band was over.” As the artist is bound to do, Wimbish poured himself into his work. Relying on himself to play most of the instruments, Wimbish was forced to strip things down and focus on melody.

Intending to release the new work as a solo record, Wimbish called a meeting to discuss the future of the Collection. “I wasn’t sure I’d have a band anymore” says Wimbish. “When we finally got together to talk about the band, I realized that I still had some folks that were all about this, and all about the music.” Wimbish had those players – and new additions husband and wife Sarah McCoy and Joshua Linhart – come in and add to the spirit of the record as well.

Lead single “Beautiful Life” came late in the process. “When I played roughs of the record to my current partner, she said she loved the songs, but that they felt much sadder than I actually am in person” tells Wimbish. “I went home and read ‘Wild Geese’ by Mary Oliver, which I love because it offers a perspective of compassion and a grace offered by the natural turning and growing of the world. Viewing change as the natural order of the world helped bring some kind of beauty to the chaos, that forgiveness or repentance can come from just aligning oneself with the earth, and with being quiet; and the song was born.”

Entropy, by definition, is the tendency of all things to move gradually into disorder. As Wimbish tells us, “I realized, as my life moved to disorder – towards entropy, that I had to re-frame the disorder as a natural way of life. I started to see all the change as the best thing that had ever happened to me. And this record was my way of writing about and through all that change in my life. My hope is that people hear the whole record through the lens of that song, through hope and beauty, and honesty.”

-Ever Kipp, Tiny Human

The Collection’s upcoming album Entropy was mixed by Stephen Price (Chad Lawson, Jonathan David Helser), and mastered by Dave Mcnair (Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen). Over the last year since The Collection’s previous album, Listen To The River, the band has tightened their sound and members, expanding each person’s musical responsibilities to include instruments from trombone and harmonium to rhodes and lap steel. But while the band still thrives in it’s grand orchestration, the new single and album focus on the core structures and singable melodies that have only been implied in the past.

What’s special about this single is the story behind it. The new album, Entropy, was written to process the divorce of vocalist David from wife and bandmate Mira Joy. The songs reflect the heavy subject matter, and after listening to them, co-producer and partner Morgan Siem challenged David, “Where are the songs that exude the joy you carry?” With that in mind, and a fresh reading of, “Wild Geese,” by Mary Oliver, “Beautiful Life” was born as a search for beauty, forgiveness, and joy while in the midst of suffering.

The Collection plays at The Grey Eagle in Asheville NC April 7th 2018. Doors are at 7, tickets are still available.

The Festival will again utilize indoor and outdoor venues throughout downtown Asheville, including Pack Square Park, the YMI Cultural Center, Hilton Garden Inn, and the Masonic Temple. New locations this year include the AC Marriott and The Asheville Social Hall. The footprint makes it easy for festival goers to walk from venue to venue, while being exposed to the vibrant culture of downtown.

The Mountain Air Market in Pack Square will be open to the public again this year, giving everyone the opportunity to listen to live music, view and participate in various demonstrations, and explore an exceptional mix of health and wellness businesses, both local and from across the country. There will also be a daily community yoga practice that’s open to the public at no charge.

Stretching beyond yoga practice, festival goers can participate in guided nature hikes, stand-up paddle boarding, educational workshops, evening concerts, and much more. The goal is to take advantage of as many experiences the Asheville area has to offer.

Giving back to the community is also a key component of Asheville Yoga Festival’s guiding philosophy. A portion of the Festival’s proceeds will be donated to local non-profit Light a Path. Light a Path’s mission is to create community and resilience in underserved populations of WNC through offering yoga, mindfulness, and other somatic therapies at no cost. Mercy Urgent Care is offering a special rate of $25.00 on sports physicals for all elementary through high school students from now through May 31, 2018. Individuals may drop in to one of the four urgent care locations in Buncombe County or the one in Transylvania County at their convenience.

Parents and guardians of student athletes should their school’s physical form with them for their physical. Students 18 years and older must present a valid photo ID. Students under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult with a valid photo ID. Payment can be made with cash, check, or credit card. Insurance will not be accepted for this special offer.

There are approximately 5,500 student athletes in the Buncombe County School System alone. Mercy Urgent Care hopes that the convenience and affordability of their sports physicals will ensure children who would like to participate are not deterred by the cost of a physical.

About Mercy Urgent Care: Mercy Urgent Care has served more than one million patients in the Asheville area since 1985. Providing, high-quality, affordable and convenient medical care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, the Buncombe County locations (three in Asheville, one in Weaverville) are open seven days a week, 362 days a year, except for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. A fifth site in Brevard provides care for the residents of Transylvania County. The West location has the most extensive hours and is open Monday-Friday: 7 a.m-8:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. More information about hours and locations can be found at www.mercyurgentcare.org
