Even the Animals blends dusky Americana with softly gritty indie rock, songs in soft focus, close to the microphone and transcending the standard take on contemporary and traditional folk. The songs are lyrically driven with shared harmonies creating a bittersweet atmosphere that is both wistful and cacophonous. The trio is led by Jeff Markham, and released an album in 2014 titled "The Lonesome Sea", which was recorded at Solomon Mines Studio in Fletcher.

Popular coffee shop Edna's of Asheville has just announced the opening of their second location near the River Arts District. Gearing up to open early July 2015, Edna's By The River will be located at 219 Amboy Road, in the same spot as the soon-to-open Asheville Food Park. This new location will not only feature an indoor cafe, but a drive through airstream trailer for coffee on the go. The cafe will feature all of the same features that make Edna's of Asheville that special place where everyone is welcome, including your four legged friends.

Brewing For Greenways

Highland Brewing Company and New Belgium Brewing have created the first collaboration connector beer to support Friends of Connect Buncombe (FOCB), a non-profit supporting the development of a greenway network across Buncombe County. Highland Brewing will host the first Brewing for Greenways event and inaugural tapping of a connector beer, Footpath Belgian Session Ale, on Friday, June 26, 4:00-9:00 p.m. at Highland’s taproom, 12 Old Charlotte Hwy, Asheville, NC 28803.
