Sanctuary Brewing Company officially opened their doors Saturday, August 22nd at 1 pm. Owners Joe Dinan and Lisa McDonald were ecstatic to share their hard work with friends and family this past weekend. Only the second brewery to open in Hendersonville, Sanctuary has 15 beers and one cider currently on tap. In addition to beer, the brewery offers craft soda from Virgil’s and Boylan, as well as small range of vegan friendly foods from Roots Hummus, No Evil Foods, and Edible Musings.
Dedicated to supporting animals, Sanctuary Brewing will be kicking things off by working with Asheville Humane Society, Blue Ridge Humane Society, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue, and Full Circle Farm Sanctuary. As a part of their business model, Sanctuary is committed to enriching the lives of animals by working with local advocates to promote their well being. Not only is their business model unique in the craft beer industry, but Sanctuary is breaking the mold as being the first 100% vegan brewery in North Carolina.
After successfully using Kickstarter and GoFundMe to raise over $20,000 to offset a portion of renovation expenses, Sanctuary welcomes consumers into their nano brewery. The building they currently occupy offers a total of 5,000 square feet of space, but Dinan and McDonald chose to open 2,000 square feet of the brewery and will continue to renovate the remaining space as they serve beer and food to eager customers. There is plenty of seating for customers and their pets, including a lounge area with adirondack chairs in front of a garage door.
You can check out Sanctuary for yourself and participate in their Grand Opening celebration, taking place Friday August 28th, starting at 7 pm. There will be raffles, prizes, adoptable puppies, local food, and a range of drinks including beer, wine, and cider. Local musician Emily Bodley will be performing live.
Sanctuary Brewing Company is located at 147 First Avenue East in Hendersonville, NC.
