Uncommon Market Asheville Indoor Market June 2019

Uncommon Market Asheville will be enjoying a climate controlled environment at their next INDOOR market on June 29 and 30. Come beat the heat (or rain) and shop vintage, antiques, art and handmade from some of the regions best! The market is 9 am - 5 pm on Saturday and 10 am - 4 pm on Sunday.  Admission is $5, good for both days and kids (17 and under) are always free. Service dogs only are welcome.

XAVL at The Mill Room Nov 9th 2013

XAVL is a celebration of creative culture, with 30+ artists demonstrating the creative process in real time, including live painters and graphic designers, installation art, photography, fashion, videography, music, and much more!   This is an all-day event, with workshops and panel discussion taking place during the day (2-6:30pm) and main event with music, etc from 8:15pm-2am.  There will be giveaways from Make Noise and Ableton as well as a raffle for a $750. The X event has 3 main intentions:

1. Present the creative process in an ecstatic and engaging way, live and uncut.

2. Allow attendees to follow the creative process in real time, giving them an added appreciation for the talents, mediums and forms of modern of expression.

3. Feature cutting-edge local and national talent, furthering the spirit of collaboration as we shape the evening and our future together.

Lineup Includes:  Fashion by Royal Peasantry. Live painters Josh Spiceland, Makasi Siriwayo, Andy Reed, and Caesar Weasel. Nine Bar Creative will have three graphic designers working as a team to demonstrate work flow and the creative process (their screens will be projected live for all to see). Design curator Craig McAnsh (of Mojo Coworking / NATiVE Marketing), Music performances by Jeremy Ellis! , Aligning Minds, Marley Carroll, and Panther God. Plus: Dance by Kathleen Hahn; Photography by (SIC) Images and Micah Mackenzie; Videography by Imaginari Studios; 3D mapped stage design by 27 Folds; Timelapse installation by Daniel Lowe; Performance Art by Jeramie Bellmay… Plus daytime music workshops and panel discussion.

Day 35: Bringing out the artist in me.

i was heading east again, to the cute little town of black mountain. all ready to walk the downtown streets and find this new cafe called the artisan. as i approached the town, i typed the address into my navigation system and was slightly confused when it showed me a route that led through downtown and then south a little bit. i had no idea that i'd be outside of black mountain. and i didn't understand how (or why) a new little cafe existed off of one of the windy country roads. but, i listen to my navigator's voice and headed south.... but, i got lost. or i did't get lost, actually. what happened was that i ended up circling back around on some back road which spit me out in the middle of downtown black mountain again.

Day 11: Totally worth the wait.

today's fika experience was a little bit different. i had it all planned out. (mistake number 1). i knew well in advance where i was going to go, so i drove downtown, parked in the parking deck, and descended the stairs from the grove arcade area to wall street. yes, asheville has a wall street - like nyc. only not at all like nyc.

Art

While the definition of art is widely controversial in itself; Asheville is one of those rare places that defines its own eclectic culture and culture of art.  Art in Asheville is from the ground up; literally.  Art of a garden,  a gate,  driveway, the hand made home with no electric tools, or only from items of the property in which it rest.  Or yes that typical piece in the park, in your living room but expanded in Asheville to dinnerware, furniture, clothing and everything you touch or touches you from head to toe.  Asheville allows the individual expression of art in every aspect of life. So walk (read) with us in this column as we experience everything Asheville has to offer in  “Art Asheville Style”.  The typical Asheville resident takes everything into account when choosing to live here, and those who settle here for life take on the Art Asheville Style starting at their driveways.  Gate or no gate we all enjoy the beauty of each welcoming entry as we take in the views from our cars driving in our mundane work life from place to place.
