Blood Orange IPA (6.5% ABV) is the latest in Catawba’s new series of fruited hoppy beers, which began with last month’s popular Pineapple IPA. Ripe citrus and tropical fruit flavors marry perfectly with the aroma and flavor notes of fresh West Coast hops. Brewed with flaked wheat in the mash, this India Pale Ale features the soft mouthfeel and juicy character associated with New England IPAs. Citrus-forward hops were selected for both the whirlpool and dry-hopping, with a final addition of over 150 lbs of real blood orange puree. The result is a citrus bomb of an IPA light in body and incredibly drinkable at only 55 IBUs.

Next week marks the beginning of the 5th Annual Asheville Beer Week, and to say that there is a lot going on would be an understatement. There are over 70 events planned around town including small batch beer releases, noteworthy tap takeovers, educational seminars, food pairings, and plenty of other festivities for everyone.

This past Saturday, February 27th, The Venue in Downtown Asheville was filled wall-to-wall with craft beer lovers, brewers, and entrepreneurs as they hosted the Asheville Beer Expo. The Asheville Brewers Alliance invited about 30 breweries to this variation on a common beer festival.

Beer City Festival returns to Roger McGuire Green in downtown Asheville, NC for its seventh annual event on Saturday, May 28th, 2016. The full-day event features beer tastings from members of Western North Carolina’s prestigious Asheville Brewers Alliance (ABA) plus music from regional bands (TBA). Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 25th at noon ET.

It's been a pleasantly exhausting ABW to this point. After the opening fest-focused weekend, the past few days have centered on many smaller tasting events and beer dinners, culminating in last night's Goose Island specialty beers tapping (2013 Lolita, 2014 Bourbon County Brand Barleywine, The Illinois) at Appalachian Vintner (745 S. Biltmore) and the Not So Big BIG Beer Fest at Thirsty Monk's future brewery location near Biltmore Village (92 Thompson St.), where that line-up even included the prized Westbrook Mexican Cake. But, with a few days left to go, I offer these few additional picks:
