Catawba Brewing Co. will throw two St. Patrick’s day events, starting with Paddy’s Day Irish Brunch from Blind Pig on Sunday, March 15. The brewery will continue the St. Patrick’s Day spirit on March 17 with live Irish tunes. Two Irish beer releases brewed in honor of the holiday will be available at both events, which will take place at the South Slope location.

Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a day which celebrates the cyclical human experience as a continuum from birth to death, and will be taking place on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Salvage Station. Traditionally Dia de los Muertos is practiced by the community receiving the dead as honored guests, departed spirits are awakened from their eternal sleep welcomed amongst their loved ones. Music, food, colorful, festive and symbolic decorations are elaborately placed throughout the night consisting of skulls, skeletons, marigolds, papel picado and other offerings collected to create altars to honor and celebrate the spirits of past and present. Dia de los Muertos takes place on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Salvage Station, located at 468 Riverside Drive, Asheville, NC 28801. Doors open at 5 pm and the event ends at 2 am. Ticket price: $5-$10 suggested donation, kids are free and can be onsite until dark.

Asheville loves beer. With over 30 breweries and new ones opening up daily, it can be nearly impossible to keep up with not only all of the beer related events that happen, but beers on tap as well. If you are new to the beer scene, the sheer number of options can be intimidating. What if there was an app to help guide you? Imagine an app that can tell you what beers are on tap; what breweries are near you; what beer events are happening; and allow you to create a beer list from brews that you are interested in or have tried and tell you where that beer was currently available locally. Does this all sound good to be true?

Asheville Citizens Raise Questions About Jonas Gerard

On Saturday, November 14, a live painting performance by well-known local artist Jonas Gerard was disrupted by a group of protesters. Gerard was participating in the bi-annual River Arts District Studio Stroll in his Riverview Station gallery. A crowd of about 200 was assembled to watch the artist create one of his abstract paintings, a lively performance accompanied by a DJ.
