DRIVE ELECTRIC (CARS) FOR EARTH DAY AT ASHEVILLE OUTLETS

SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 2019 from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. Hosted by Blue Ridge Electric Vehicle Club and Western North Carolina Tesla Owners Free and Open to the Public Join the Blue Ridge Electric Vehicle Club and Western North Carolina Tesla Owners for Drive Electric Earth Day on Sunday, April 28th, from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. at Asheville Outlets. The event is sponsored by Land of Sky Clean Vehicles Coalition and Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. The event is free and open to the public.  Along with local electric vehicle (EV) drivers and their vehicles, electric bicycles and yard equipment will be on display. Featured electric vehicles will include the Tesla Model 3, Chevy Bolt and the 2019 Nissan Leaf. Plus, the latest all electric Jaguar IPace. Owners will be available to answer questions about the EV lifestyle including charging, costs and performance. Several hotels have special rates for those attending Drive Electric Earth Day, including Holiday Inn Express & Suites Asheville SW – Brevard Road, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott – Asheville South and Lake Powhatan Recreational Area/Campground. ASHEVILLE OUTLETS SANTA ARRIVAL TREE LIGHTING AND FREE SANTA PHOTOS

Asheville Outlets is pleased to welcome Santa Claus on Saturday, November 18 at 5 p.m. Santa will lead a parade featuring Enka Candler Fire Department and Enka High School Band leading all the through the center to officially light the 24-foot tree located in front of Forever 21. Paramount Kia of Asheville, iHeart Radio - Asheville and The North Carolina Arboretum will sponsor Santa’s festive arrival. Immediately following the tree lighting, Santa will be available through Christmas Eve for FREE photos.

Retro Age Opens In Asheville Mall

Asheville gains a new retro video game store as Retro Age, a small southern branch of stores, sets to open in the Asheville Mall April 1st. Retro Age is owned and operated by Val Fisher, a recent transplant to Asheville. Asheville will be the third Retro Age store to open, the others in Georgia and Florida. The store buys and sells anything video game related, with the exception of PC games.

Asheville Mall Welcomes Vanity Shops

Vanity, also known as Vanity Shops or Vanity Shop of Grand Forks will soon be joining other retailers at the Asheville Mall on Tunnel Road. Headquartered in Fargo, North Dakota, Vanity opened their first store in 1969. The popular junior fashion retailer has since grown to over 170 locations in 26 states.

Local Business Spotlight: Mitchell’s Tuxedos

Mitchell's Tuxedos is a small shop tucked in the back corner of the Asheville Mall, where they have been serving customers for over 35 years. A family owned business, this local enterprise is one of three storefronts in the mall that are not part of a big box retailer. Owner Kathy Beatty realizes that bigger is not better when it comes to providing customer service and that personal touch that clients crave for their important day. Mitchell's Tuxedos offers the sale and renting of quality tuxedos for prom and weddings, as well as offering business suits available to rent for that important meeting or interview. "We clothe families through generations, and consider it a total commitment. It is so amazing to see some of our clients return with their sons or grandsons to rent their first suit," Beatty tells us.

King of Sweets Leaves Asheville Mall

The Asheville Mall has been under an increasing amount of pressure, with the opening date of Asheville Outlets a mere few days away. We've reported recently that Banana Republic has left the mall to open a storefront at the Outlets. Before European H&M moved in, popular retailer Abercrombie & Fitch closed their doors and has been recently announced to be a part of the Outlets as well.

Asheville Mall Losing More Stores

The Asheville Mall, located on 3 South Tunnel Road, has been experiencing a high number of turnover in recent years. We've seen a large amount of stores come and go, and there have been plenty of rumors flying about what store is closing next. Don't worry, we already found out that Sears is not going away any time soon. Last year, Asheville Mall underwent it's biggest 'renovation' in years, where several stores relocated, and European fashion clothing store H&M moved in. While I am sure the mall anticipated this would be an impressive new draw for shoppers, it seems like other stores continue to struggle.

Overheard in Asheville: Sears Leaving Asheville Mall

The rumor mill is alive and well, this time targeting the Asheville Mall. The mall on Tunnel Road is reported to be undergoing some extensive renovations in the near future, much to the delight of local shoppers. Until this year, Asheville Mall has not experienced any competition, but with the opening of the new Asheville Outlets May 2nd, the CBL owned property may be feeling pressured to step up their game.

Jared the Galleria of Jewelry Opens in Asheville

A new jewelry store is opening in Asheville. If you've visited tunnel road lately and checked out the new Whole Foods across from the Asheville mall, you've noticed more than one building awaiting occupancy. On November 15th, Jared the Galleria of Jewelry will open its doors to Asheville residents for the first time. During the grand opening, you can enter to win a chance for a pair of 1 carat diamond earrings. The first 200 guests will receive a complimentary $100 gift from the store. Belk is leaving Biltmore Square

Many changes are coming about in Asheville, especially on Brevard road. Construction is well underway on the former Biltmore Square Mall as the Winter Construction company out of Atlanta has torn the roof off of the building and started demolishing the existing structures. The construction is making way for 75 new retail stores spanning 325,000 square feet of space. While all of this is happening, the anchor stores remain open and are reported to remain as a part of the mall during its transformation. Dillards Outlet, The Dollar Tree, Belk's, and Cinebarre are continuing to serve the Asheville community.
