Tellico Enters Recording Studio After Successful Kickstarter Campaign

Tellico is happy to announce their Kickstarter campaign was successfully funded and they will be heading into the studio at the turn of the year to record their debut album. Based in Asheville NC with it’s thriving roots music scene, the quartet combines some of the finest voices, songs and instrumental prowess in western North Carolina and beyond. Tellico features the singing and songwriting of Anya Hinkle (guitar, fiddle, vocals) and Stig Stiglets (bass, vocals) with Aaron Ballance on dobro and Jed Willis on mandolin and clawhammer banjo.

Brown Bag Songwriting Competition Returns for an 8th Season

The Brown Bag Songwriting Competition is proud to announce the dates for it’s upcoming season of open-mic nights. Now in its 8th year, the Brown Bag will move to the Asheville Music Hall’s main room and kick-off the weekly songwriting and performance competition on Monday, September 8th, 2014 and continue each Monday following until November 17th, 2014. A Brown Bag Finals Showcase will take place on Sunday, November 23, 2014.

Asheville Sessions: The River Rats

The River Rats formed in Asheville around early 2011 as a street busking project. Jumpstarted from several songs written by local singer/songwriter Andrew Scotchie, The River Rats have evolved from a stripped down guitar and harmonica duo to 5 piece rock soul and blues band. Based in music mecca of Asheville and fronted by Andrew Scotchie (guitars/vocals), the River Rats are currently on tour of the Southeast and are supporting 2 records: "Soul and Sarcasm" the bands first studio release of 2012 and the 2013 release of "BARNAROO BOOTLEG" a live record showcasing the bands' unique live energy.

Asheville Sessions: Ben Miller Band

Sometimes, do you wonder if the undercurrent of a towns' vibe calls out to artists and individuals who have the same kind of feel to them? Take for example the Ben Miller Band from Joplin, Missouri. We caught up with them during their first time in Asheville when they were performing at The Grey Eagle in the River Arts District. This talented trio combines bluegrass, delta blues, and the soul of Appalachia mountain music to make something hauntingly beautiful. It always surprises us when bands like this hail from other areas, as you would have expected them to have been born and raised right here in Western North Carolina.

Busy Weekend in Asheville: All Go West Fest & Geek Out

Happening June 7th, 2014 the second All Go West Fest is happening in West Asheville. There will be three stages set up with bands playing starting at 11 am until 1 am. Three stages will be used, so pick and choose your bands wisely. Find bands at Isis, The Mothlight, and an outdoor stage (location of the outdoor stage is to be announced.) All Go West is an entirely free event, so be sure to show your local love and buy a beer (or two, or three...) from the venues that offer a fine variety of wares. Unlike last year, Taste of the West - the VIP portion of All Go West is not happening, but we hope to see it back next year. In the meantime, check out the list of amazing artists that are performing June 7th.

Asheville Sessions: PigPen Theatre Company

In the second installment of Asheville Sessions, we bring to you a unique collective of young men that are from New York. This group of 7 are singers, songwriters, dreamers, film artists, and a theatre company. Who are they? PigPen Theatre Company. Started in 2008 by freshman of Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, PigPen has been quickly escalating into popularity due to their diverse range of artistic abilities. They've produced original off Broadway productions, are debuting a children's novel, and have toured nationally as a band. Is there anything these guys can't do?
