Catawba Brewing Releases Small Batch Belgian Tripel

catawba belgian tripel

Catawba’s Belgian Tripel was inspired by the strong golden ales brewed by the Trappist monks of Flanders and Wallonia. The style is the newest addition to the abbey ale trinity (Dubbel, Tripel, Quadruple), having first appeared at Westmalle Abbey in the 1930s. It was said to be Belgium’s response to the growing popularity of pale colored beers in Europe. However, unlike the prevailing light lagers of the time, the Belgian Tripel utilizes a unique yeast strain, and roughly three times the malt of a standard “Single” – hence the name. The result is a style that helped elevate Belgian beer to a pinnacle once reserved only for the best wines of France or Italy.

Catawba Brewing Releases Small Batch Blood Orange IPA

blood orange ipa

Blood Orange IPA (6.5% ABV) is the latest in Catawba’s new series of fruited hoppy beers, which began with last month’s popular Pineapple IPA. Ripe citrus and tropical fruit flavors marry perfectly with the aroma and flavor notes of fresh West Coast hops. Brewed with flaked wheat in the mash, this India Pale Ale features the soft mouthfeel and juicy character associated with New England IPAs. Citrus-forward hops were selected for both the whirlpool and dry-hopping, with a final addition of over 150 lbs of real blood orange puree. The result is a citrus bomb of an IPA light in body and incredibly drinkable at only 55 IBUs.

Catawba Brewing Releases Passport Beer #3

catawba brewing

In recent weeks, Catawba’s Small Batch Program has explored dark malty styles and higher-gravity offerings designed to sustain you through the cold of winter. With their latest release, they’re taking the contrarian approach, swinging back to the lighter end of the beer spectrum. This American Blonde Ale is an interesting dichotomy. A traditional summer beer brewed in January. A new release that’s actually an old recipe. Think of it as a Throwback Thursday Beer.

Hi-Wire Brewing 12 Pack Collaboration

hi wire brewing

Consumers will be pleased with the unique styles available in the Hi-Wire Collaboration 12-pack. Hi-Wire Brewing’s co-owner, Chris Frosaker, notes “It's been a while since we have been able to do any collab beers, so when we saw some openings at our production brewery, we wanted to go big. We invited NOLA, Hardywood, and Holy City because of the similarity between all of us. All four breweries are about the same size volume-wise, make very approachable year-round beers, and all have adventurous specialty programs. It was a blast making beer with three companies who approach the beer world in such a similar way as we do."
