"Project Yellow is a wonderful education campaign for dogs in our community," said Katy Mahaley, Behavior Department Coordinator at Asheville Humane Society. "I see many dogs who are a little shy or just need extra space, and owners struggle with communicating that to people who love dogs and want to interact. Asheville Humane Society kicks off its Project Pit Bull Awareness and Action Campaign on June 19 at 6:30 p.m. with a community forum. Deirdre Franklin, founder of Pinups for Pitbulls, owner of Darlings Asheville and author of Little Darling’s Pinups for Pitbulls will lead the discussion, “What is BSL and Can It Keep Us Safe?” The forum is the first of the campaign's free services for pit bull owners, community resources, and other events.

The Fantastic Furry Frenzy is Black Friday, November 28th until Saturday, November 29th from 10 AM until 6 PM. Doorbusters include a free tennis ball with every dog adoption or a free bag of cat treats with every cat or kitten adoption, while supplies last.

September is historically the slowest month for adoptions and one of the busiest months in terms of animals in the care of Asheville Humane Society. In order to find homes for all the cats and kittens who need a second chance, Asheville Humane Society is dropping adoption fees to just $5.00 for five weeks. From September 2 - October 4, the challenge is to exceed the number of felines' lives saved over last September's adoption total of 145 feline adoptions.
The reduced adoption fee of $5.00 represents an exceptional value. All adoptions include spaying/neutering, current vaccines, medical and behavioral screening, microchipping, a free starter bag of food, one month of complimentary pet health insurance, and a free post-adoption veterinary office visit with a participating veterinarian. The reduced fee applies to cats and kittens of all ages.

Meet Keeper! He is a one and a half year old Vizsla Mix. If we could pick one word to describe this energetic guy, it would be FUN! Keeper is favorite pick for the Humane Society's Hiking Hounds and Urban Tails programs, in which volunteers take adoptable dogs out and about on hikes. He offers the best of both worlds... after an adventurous day of hiking, he would be a sweet boy to enjoy a quiet evening with you. Keeper is very smart and would love a person who would work with him on training, tricks or agility. He already knows sit and down! He even enjoys the company of his other dog “roommates” here in the Adoption Center. Keeper is a fantastic dog who has been with us for quite a while, just because he keeps getting overlooked. Please give him a chance and we know you’ll fall in love!
