The phenomenon known as ‘kitten season’ happens each year as the days get longer, temperatures get warmer, and cats have easier access to food, resulting in more mating and an increased chance that litters will survive and thrive. Here in the southeast, kittens usually begin to appear in local shelters in February.

Kitten season is in full swing and Asheville Humane Society has plenty of felines who need loving homes. To help them all get adopted, Asheville Humane Society will host its first pop-up cat cafe on Friday and Saturday, August 3 - 4, in Gerber Village (Suite 104). Gerber Mills LLC is temporarily donating the unoccupied space to Asheville Humane Society for this event.

During the month of June, Asheville Humane Society is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society to participate in a national adoption promotion for cats! Adoption fees will be reduced for all cats 6 months of age and up! For $10.00, you can adopt a feline friend complete with all up-to-date vaccines, spay/neuter, microchipping, initial flea preventative, a free starter bag of food, one month of complimentary pet health insurance, and a free post-adoption veterinary office visit with a participating veterinarian.
