Lex18, a dinner club and moonshine bar whose speakeasy past shines through in its throwback 20s decor, fine dining experience and novel approaches to both dinner and entertainment, invited us to sample their new menu and publish our food review of the new menu. The new menu features twists on Southern favorites, and I was excited to see what was on offer.

Asheville's seventh annual Wine and Food Festival had its first phases of its culinary competition on Friday, May 1st, with "Amuse." At this pre-festival event, five chefs and six mixologists were to take an ingredient or two from an amusement park or circus and use it as inspiration to produce bite-sized original dishes. The winners of this competition will go on to compete at the Grand Tasting and Elixir later this summer.

You may have noticed that Lex 18, a fairly new restaurant in downtown Asheville, shuttered its doors briefly. Today, they reopen their doors with a new chef, a rising star in the culinary industry, Edwin Bloodworth.
