The Inaugural Jam In The Trees Takes Place at Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain

The Inaugural Jam In The Trees Takes Place at Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain, NC on Friday & Saturday, August 26-27, 2016

The inaugural Jam In The Trees takes place at Pisgah Brewing Company in Black Mountain, NC on Friday and Saturday, August 26-27, 2016 as a gathering of folks for the purpose of celebrating great music, beer, and community for a good cause!

Jam in The Trees is pleased to announce the new additions of Patrick Sweany and The Secret Sisters! Kicking off full force with an already stellar lineup including The Wood Brothers, The Del McCoury Band, Junior Brown, Willie Watson, The Burrito Brothers, and Leyla McCalla along with a handful of North Carolina artists including Mipso, Chatham County Line, Tellico, Mark Bumgarner, and Unspoken Tradition. More still to be announced!

The Secret Sisters
About a 20-minute drive is all that separated The Secret Sisters from being born in historic Muscle Shoals, Alabama, though its sheer proximity to their hometown of Happy Valley practically foretold that Laura and Lydia Rogers were destined for lives as recording and performing artists. With their sophomore album, Put Your Needle Down [Republic Records], The Secret Sisters’ future has never seemed clearer.

Growing up surrounded by the sounds of the South and the powerful timeless music emanating from Muscle Shoals, The Secret Sisters were heavily influenced by a range of uniquely American musical styles, including country, bluegrass and gospel, as well as classic rock and pop. They were raised on a rich tapestry of music, listening to everything from George Jones and Loretta Lynn, to The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, The Ramones, Fiona Apple and Rufus Wainwright. But it was their father, a musician himself, who introduced Laura and Lydia to bluegrass at an early age and spent many weekends bringing his daughters to local bluegrass festivals.

Patrick Sweany
Patrick Sweany likes the spaces in between. On a given night (or on a given album) he’ll swing through blues, folk, soul, bluegrass, maybe some classic 50s rock, or a punk speedball. He’s a musical omnivore, devouring every popular music sound of the last 70 years, and mixing ’em all together seamlessly into his own stew. Yet, the one thing that most people notice about Patrick isn’t his ability to copy – it’s his authenticity.
His latest record, Daytime Turned To Nighttime, was recorded in his adopted community of E. Nashville, TN and features contributions from long-time collaborator and producer Joe McMahan (Allison Moorer, Webb Wilder), Ron Eoff (Cate Brothers, Levon Helm), Bryan Owings (Tony Joe White, Solomon Burke), among others. For Daytime Sweany took a fairly different approach than his usual raw, intense blues sound, opting for more subtle textures and playing. Seminal 70s records by Bill Withers, Bobbie Gentry and Bobby Charles & The Band provide the sonic blueprint, while Sweany wraps his trademark baritone and impeccable acoustic slide work around songs of longing, redemption and growing up.
Jam in The Trees promises a wide range of award-winning musicians over two days with live performances, exquisite local food offerings, VIP events with the artists, and down-home fun. Limited VIP and weekend ticketing packages are available. WNCW is the media sponsor and will be emceeing at the event. Doors open at 7pm on Friday for shows on the indoor stage. Gates open Saturday at 10am, with music starting at 11am throughout the day until 11pm on the beautiful Pisgah Outdoor Stage, followed by an “After Hours Jam” on the indoor stage.

Laurel York, a lifelong resident of Asheville and President of Jam In The Trees, LLC, helped bring the idea for the event to fruition during a visit with friends from Asheville and Canada that “mentioned Pisgah Brewing is a perfect location and felt it would attract people from all over with the right musical lineup. That started the ball rolling toward creating an event that would be a celebration of authentic Roots Music, community, and philanthropy (a portion of the proceeds will go to a local not-for-profit, Wild Forests & Fauna (WildFF), in one of the area’s finest outdoor music venues” said York.

“Jam in the Trees is shining a bright light bringing our community together in support of the Big Tree Project which focuses on the biggest, baddest trees in Western NC and beyond, that generate the most benefits to surrounding ecosystems and biodiversity.” Benjamin Colvin, Executive Director WildFF, goes on to say, “Del McCoury Band, the Wood Brothers and this whole lineup connects in spirit with WildFF… we all want people to go outside, get connected, get lost a little, and ACT to protect our forests for future generations!”

“We are extremely pleased to be working to bring Jam In The Trees to Pisgah Brewing. Those that attend our events know that we treat our attendees right and the music is always top notch. This event will be no different. Come join us for a fun event next August and get your tickets early as we expect this to sell out quickly once the additional artists are announced!” said Benton Wharton, the Events Manager for Pisgah Brewing.
