Wicked Weed Tasting Room Delayed Opening

Last year Wicked Weed introduced Asheville citizens to their 40,000 square foot brewing facility in Candler, North Carolina. This new production facility was a vertical move to increase their distribution in Asheville, to support their large offering of beers. Wicked Weed proudly offers a minimum of 25 beers available at all times, taking an “ADD approach to brewing,” chuckles Walt Dickinson.

A part of the new facility is the opportunity to host events on the land surrounding the bottling center, including the iconic Funk Asheville festival. One perk to Candler residents includes plans for a large tasting room and visitors center. The tasting room was slated to be opened sometime this year, but unfortunately it looks like that timeline has been pushed to 2017. Co-owner Rick Guthey explains “We are putting the same dollars budgeted towards more tanks. We are in the process of purchasing $2 million of additional brewing equipment, leaving no extra money in the budget for the tasting room in Enka. This will most likely be a 2017 project.”

The Candler bottling facility boosted Wicked Weed production from 15 barrels at the original brewhouse downtown Asheville to 50 for a total of 65 barrels, putting their capacity at over 1500 gallons of beer. No word on how many additional tanks are being purchased at this time.
