Asheville Welcomes Brewpon Beer App

Asheville loves beer. With over 30 breweries in the area and new ones opening up daily, it can be nearly impossible to keep up with not only all of the beer related events that happen, but beers on tap as well. If you are new to the beer scene, the sheer number of options can be intimidating. What if there was an app to help guide you? Imagine an app that can tell you what beers are on tap; what breweries are near you; what beer events are happening; and allow you to create a beer list from brews that you are interested in or have tried and tell you where that beer was currently available locally. Does this all sound too good to be true?

Enter Brewpon.

Launched March 15th, 2016, this local app is a craft beer enthusiasts dream. Users have the ability to download the app and browse breweries, pubs and grub, check out local beer events, find beer on tap, and more. Creator Tommy Green officially trademarked Brewpon on August 11, 2012 but the idea had been in the works four years prior. “I wanted an app that told me where my favorite beers were on tap and on special,” Green explains.

The app is free to download in both the Apple store and Google Play. Users can opt to create a profile to cater the app experience to their personal preference. Selecting the Near Me Now option shows breweries near you, including your distance from the brewery; last call time, and what time the kitchen closes, assuming food is served on site. Tapping on the brewery for more information yields a short description about the brewery, address, phone number food offerings, activities, and driving directions.

Users can search for local beers by selecting the Beer option, where users are taken to a list of available beers. A quick glance shows the name of the beer and brewery, along with the ABV and the type of beer. If the name of a beer catches your eye, you can select the entry and be taken to an in-depth page that gives a long description of the beer, and Brewpon will tell you where you can locally find that beer on tap.

For example, my app currently displays French Broad IPA, and lets me know that this particular brew is on tap at French Broad Brewing and Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria. I can choose to Tap To Track this beer, and it will now automatically display in the My Beers section of the app. Do you realize what this means, Cold Mountain fans? Finally you can track your beloved winter ale without blindly guessing which taproom still has a remaining keg or two.

Users can contribute to the Brewpon database by submitting beers on tap through the app, beer related events on the event calendar, and general questions or ideas by clicking on the Info option.

Even though the Brewpon app is only four days old, Green informs us that version 2.0 is already in the works. “It will be truly awesome,” Green confides. “We are looking forward to getting feedback from the Asheville community on what features they would like.”

Patrick Conant, the coder behind Brewpon, tells us: “It’s taken months of work to get here, but I am proud of what we’ve created – a comprehensive guide to the local beer scene, with an expanded focus on community events, news, specials, and podcasts! Built specifically for Asheville by locals!”

Download the Brewpon app for free through the Apple Store and Google Play today. Tell us your favorite feature the app has to offer in the comments.
