Asheville’s Home for Original Works Launches Major Fundraising Campaign
The Magnetic Theatre has created a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $15,000 by October 30 to keep the arts nonprofit from shutting down.
The past 18 months have been exceptionally challenging for arts communities everywhere. While The Magnetic Theatre has continued producing virtually and in outdoor spaces during the shutdowns, and indoors with enhanced safety protocols since April 2021, these challenges have compounded to threaten the continued existence of the nonprofit company. Now, The Magnetic Theatre is asking for the community’s help to keep creating unique theatrical experiences.
With its mission of supporting emerging playwrights and developing new works from the page to the stage in collaboration with writers, The Magnetic Theatre values innovation, community, and inspiring artists to take creative risks. Its affordable rental space supports other local companies, such as The Asheville Fringe Arts Festival, Asheville Creative Arts, Asheville Performing Arts Academy, Nemesis Theatre Company, Speakeasy Improv, and Modelface Comedy.
“Now more than ever, we need the arts in our community, to bind us together, to keep us hopeful and strong,” says Artistic Director Katie Jones. “With all of the threats the pandemic has presented, one hopeful thing has become extremely clear – our community is the heart and soul of this theatre. It’s this community that inspires us to keep going, in spite of all odds.”
Located at 375 Depot Street in Asheville’s River Arts District, The Magnetic Theatre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It has been a home for live performance in Asheville for more than a decade, producing original works, experimental theatre, variety shows, comedy, late night shows, site-specific performances, and more.
