Asheville is very conscious about shopping local and supporting our local business owners and economy. However, not everyone shops local all the time – I am sure some of our residents may not shop local at all. Many people shop online to take advantage of great discounts and savings. If you are like me, your go-to website for price comparison and purchases is Amazon.com. This holiday season, don’t feel guilty about shopping online when the situation calls for it, because now even when you shop through Amazon a portion of your purchases can support a local nonprofit.
It works like this: Amazon has something called the Smile network, which you can access by visiting smile.amazon.com. Link your existing amazon account or register a new one. Once you are logged in, you will be prompted to search for an organization that you want to support. You can search by area, organization name, or type. I did a quick search for Asheville area nonprofits, and came up with a large list of nonprofits that can benefit from your support. Here is a quick list of 30 organizations that will receive .5% of each of every order you place.

This is 30 of the 656 local nonprofits that are a part of the Amazon Smile network. So shop smart, and if you can’t shop local at least support a local organization when shopping online. It’s easy, free, and you can do it all year round. If you have more than one organization you want to support, you can quickly and easily change your preferences in your account so that spread the joy to as many organizations as you desire.
