AMOS Virtual Science Pub Series – Radon: The Monster in Your Basement Thursday, April 16 | 6 – 7:30 pm

 

AMOS and The Collider present a free VIRTUAL science talk on radon, a dangerous gas common in many households 

 Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS), in partnership with The Collider, presents their first-ever VIRTUAL Science Pub, “Radon: The Monster in Your Basement”.

WHO: Speakers will include Brett Strimple of Integrity Radon Control in Fairview and Phillip Gibson, NC Radon Program Coordinator. Mary Spivey, Community Manager at The Collider, will moderate the event.

WHAT: AMOS’ Science Pubs combine the best of Asheville under one roof from interesting science to great brews, all while advancing the museum’s core values and science literacy. Science Pubs are held every third Thursday of the month. The AMOS Virtual Science pub is keeping people engaged, informed and safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. 

April’s Pub explores the dangerous gas radon and its prevalence in households across the country, with a focus on WNC. A short film on radon will be shown at the beginning. At-home radon testing kits will be given away via mail to the first 50 attendees.

This is the sixth year AMOS has collaborated with local scientists, industry, innovators, and breweries to present the Science Pub series free to the public. Science Pub events traditionally take place at The Collider, Suite 401 of the Callen Building, and are free to the public. Prior Science Pub topics have included gravitational waves, the science of brewing beer, and dog behavior.
