THE GREAT FOREST FILM

THE GREAT FOREST, a feature documentary, recently launched on Kickstarter to raise the finishing funds for the film. The documentary follows conservationists throughout southern Appalachia as they struggle to manage two of the most biodiverse and visited national forests in the country – the Pisgah and Nantahala. The Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests are a part of the Appalachian Mountains, which are some of the oldest mountains on earth. These public lands receive over 10 million visitors a year, bringing in millions of revenue dollars, representing some of the most popular public lands in the U.S. Despite their significance and importance, the future of these National Forests is currently uncertain. The US Forest Service has been working on a Forest Plan that will dictate how the Pisgah and Nantahala are managed for the next two decades. The plan is currently being unveiled and has been a center of controversy, highlighting the core conflicts that public lands are facing across the country such as wilderness designation, wildlife protection, overdevelopment, managing recreation, logging and more. Hi-Wire Brewing Announces Plans for Birmingham, AL Location

The brewer’s first Alabama taproom, set to open in late summer, will join Hi-Wire’s roster of soon-to-be ten taprooms. With expansions underway at both its Biltmore Village Production and South Slope Specialty breweries in Asheville, two additional locations are scheduled to open this year – Charlotte, N.C., in the spring and Cincinnati near the end of 2022. Alabama marks the fourth state in which the award-winning brewery will have premises with six facilities in Hi-Wire’s home state of North Carolina along with out-of-state taprooms in Knoxville, Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, and soon-to-be Cincinnati, Ohio. Hi-Wire Brewing has opened three new locations since December of 2020 in addition to expanding its distribution footprint to a ninth state, Virginia.

Hi-Wire Brewing Announces Plans for Charlotte, NC Location

From the mountains of Asheville to the sunny shores of Wilmington, Hi-Wire Brewing plans to check off another stop on the North Carolina map by opening a new retail location in the state’s largest city of Charlotte. This new brewery and taproom, set to open in Spring 2022, will become the fourth North Carolina city in which the Asheville-based brewery has opened premises, though it marks the sixth location in the state including three Asheville locations, and the eighth in the company overall with out-of-state taprooms in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Louisville, Kentucky. Hi-Wire has opened or is in the process of opening three of those locations in just the past 10 months with the Wilmington, North Carolina, spot opening mid-December 2020, Louisville opening late in August 2021, and Asheville’s RAD Beer Garden and Distribution Center set to open in November of this year.

Save The Magnetic Theatre

The past 18 months have been exceptionally challenging for arts communities everywhere.  While The Magnetic Theatre has continued producing virtually and in outdoor spaces during the shutdowns, and indoors with enhanced safety protocols since April 2021, these challenges have compounded to threaten the continued existence of the nonprofit company.  Now, The Magnetic Theatre is asking for the community’s help to keep creating unique theatrical experiences.

ABCCM TO Dedicate SECU Center of Hope at Transformation Village

Transformation Village is ABCCM’s newest residential facility for women and children. The SECU Center of Hope is part of Phase I that provides transitional housing for women who need a safe place for themselves and their children while their lives are transformed. Phase I will be able to house up to 240 women and children annually. Phase II will be the construction of six apartment buildings that will have permanent, deeply affordable homes for up to 300 residents.
