Asheville BARNAROO 2018 at Franny’s Farm September 28-30

Asheville BARNAROO is celebrating 6 years at Franny’s Farm in Leicester, NC September 28th-30th, featuring non-stop music over 38 acres for 3 days. AVL BARNAROO was started by Asheville Native Andrew Scotchie and friends in 2009 in Weaverville NC.  Teenagers then, Scotchie built AVL Barnaroo out of a necessity to perform in front of their peers and support the Asheville music scene.  Since then, the festival has grown into an eclectic staple of the NC festival scene, been ranked into the top 3 camping festivals in WNC by Mountain Xpress Magazine readers and featured nationally touring acts as well as grammy nominated artists.  Barnaroo’s goal is to give back to the youth music community through Asheville Music School. The Festival is an ALL WEEKEND event with optional camping. New to this year will be Sunday “Youth Music Day” featuring Asheville Music School ensembles of all ages and “rise and shine open mic” hosted by Odyssey High School starting at 10 am.

The music lineup this year features bands from all over the nation.  From blues,  funk and soul to experimental Appalachian roots music, this years lineup proves to be the most musically diverse yet.  Saturday Sept 29th headliner Eric Gales is perhaps one of the most admired rock/fusion guitar players in the industry today.  Modern blues icon Joe Bonamassa has even said “he is one of the best, if not the best guitar player in the world”.  It’s well documented that Gales was a child prodigy and heralded as the second coming of Jimi Hendrix when he released his debut album The Eric Gales Band in 1991 as a 16 year old on Elektra Records. It was the first of 10 albums on a major label through a blistering career. He has released 14 studio albums in total ahead of his latest,  Middle of the Road and a host of other collaborations, one of which led him to work with producer Fabrizio Grossi (Alice Cooper, Joe Bonamassa, Billy F. Gibbons, Ice T, Leslie West, Slash, Walter Trout, Steve Lukather, Steve Vai, Paul Stanley, Supersonic Blues Machine).

“Asheville Barnaroo was built out of necessity. A necessity to perform, share the communities burgeoning art scene with one another and to inspire more musicians to step onto the stage with confidence.   Asheville Barnaroo turns 10 this year and I’m proud to say the festival has grown but still supports all things local and the next generation of musicians in WNC”

“The atmosphere is welcoming to people of all ages and musical tastes.  At the end of the weekend, people leave having more friends and are aware of bands they may have never been exposed to.  Attendees are welcomed in like family.  Franny’s Farm is such a beautiful place in the fall and I feel a lot of the festival goers feel at peace when they come to the farm.  Nobody is on top of each or feels like they are just another face in the crowd; people have enough space and can also genuinely connect with one another”
