Asheville Fringe Festival Returns January 26th 2017

The Fringe Returns as Fearless as Ever on January 26-29, 2017

The Asheville Fringe Arts Festival will return bigger and better for it’s fifteenth year. With over 35 contracted artists and 18 ticketed shows, the bold festival just keeps growing and growing. The 2017 edition will feature some favorite dance/movement based artists from years’ past, including Jenni Cockrell, Lindsey Kelly Dance, Amanda Levesque and Kathy Meyers Leiner.  Puppetry fans will enjoy several shows in the line-up, including a premiere by Keith Shubert, as well as work by artists Broderick Jones, and West of Roan.

The festival is proud to host several provocative pieces that will engage the audience in thoughtful reflection on current society, including Black! by Michael Washington Brown and Unredeemable by Jim Sea. These monologues deal with contemporary issues of race, gender and violence and provide insight through the variety of points of view portrayed.  Audiences can catch them both at The Magnetic Theatre.

Fringe fans of comedy will enjoy Breakfast at Wimbledon by Willie Filkowski and Brita Thorne (also at The Magnetic Theatre) and Happy Birthday, Stupid Kid by IRTE Theatre Company.  Happy Birthday Stupid Kid is an audience interactive birthday party and will be at the Bebe Theatre.

Other venues included in the Festival are the Mothlight, LaZoom Bus, Dirty South Lounge and the ToyBoat Community Art Space.  Shows run Thursday, January 26 through Sunday, January 29 at 7 & 9pm (earlier on Sunday).  Don’t forget to catch the after-parties each night where you can meet the artists and chat about your favorite Fringe shows!

The full festival schedule, individual show descriptions, and after party details will be posted on the website  www.ashevillefringe.org
Individual tickets for each show range between $13-$16 and will go on sale January 1. See www.AshevilleFringe.org for ticketing links.
