While you, me and everyone we know tend to think of Oskar Blues as a local exclusively to Brevard, they actually started out in Colorado. And they intend to help Colorado out. They recently started a 501(c)(3) Non-profit Foundation, Can’d Aid. “It’s been a 15 year mission for me to organize a way to give back to the communities that helped build our businesses,” says owner, Dale Katechis said.
While their long term goals include a variety of focuses in the areas of arts, recreation, and environmental sustainability, the first and immediate focus for the foundation is to help people in the communities of communities of Lyons and Longmont, CO which were devastated by the severe floods that lashed the Front Range of Colorado. From now until October 13th, they are donating $1 for every Oskar Blues brew purchased at all locations including the Brevard Tap Room. And, if you’re in the market for a sweet bike, purchase one from Reeb (the Oskar Blues bike company) and they will donate $200.
So, head down to Brevard and have a couple. Better yet, take their trolley down there. That way, on the way down, you can call your mom and tell her you’re heading to a charity event. You both will feel great about doing something good.
