Asheville Sessions: All Boy/All Girl

all boy/all girl band

In late 2014, we had the pleasure of meeting New York based band All Boy/All Girl before their performance at Toy Boy Community Theatre. Compromised of seven young adults, this dynamic band showed us a hint of their talent while playing an acoustic set behind Pack Place in downtown Asheville. Led by Danielle Lovier, who sings and plays ukulele; All/Boy All Girl formed in 2010 in Philadelphia. Double Bassist Nicholas Rahn approached Danielle about accompanying her performance after hearing her first set at Rittenhouse Square Park. The duo spent the next 18 months playing together as buskers in Philadelphia as well as touring through 35 states and Canada.

Asheville Beer Week: Beer Blogger Choice Events Finale

asheville beer week

It's been a pleasantly exhausting ABW to this point. After the opening fest-focused weekend, the past few days have centered on many smaller tasting events and beer dinners, culminating in last night's Goose Island specialty beers tapping (2013 Lolita, 2014 Bourbon County Brand Barleywine, The Illinois) at Appalachian Vintner (745 S. Biltmore) and the Not So Big BIG Beer Fest at Thirsty Monk's future brewery location near Biltmore Village (92 Thompson St.), where that line-up even included the prized Westbrook Mexican Cake. Biltmore Coffee Company Closing

The Biltmore Coffee Company (Not to be confused with Biltmore Coffee Traders on Hendersonville Road), located at 1 North Pack Square, in the bottom portion of the Biltmore Office Building, is closing doors effective Friday, June 27th. I did a little digging to find out the cause of closure and what would happen to the building.

Day 21: On the corner of sunshine and yumminess.

it was a beautiful early autumn day and i could feel the pull of downtown. i had nothing at all planned. no idea where i'd get my coffee from, but it needed to be downtown. i don't know why. so, i parked my car and started walking the streets. i just felt good. you know, one of those days when you feel really alive. the sun was warm and shining. the sky was bright blue. the moon still hung in the sky, fading away as the bright day took over. and the leaves were just beginning to get that hint of color on the tips on some trees. everything just felt good. and i walked.

Day 12: Right in the middle of it all.

ok. i admit it. my tastes are all over the place. when it comes to coffeehouses and cafes, i like everything. or at least, i like something about everything. i think that's my stubbornly optimistic, idealistic, find-the-positive-in-everything personality. annoying to some, perhaps. but, to me, it's just how i am. i can't change. i don't want to change. and i don't think i even could change.
