Bringing back the L word
HiWire Brewing, known for its approachable beer, will be hosting its Inaugural How do you LagerFest? on Saturday, May 14th from 12:00pm 8: 00pm at their Big Top location 2 Huntsman Place.
Lagers used to be categorized as anything but craft. Made for red plastic cups and green bottles, these fizzy beers were for novice beer drinkers only. Today, the craft has been perfected and the demand is high.
Finely fermented at cool temperatures, the slower process (approximately four to eight weeks) makes lagers worth the wait. Most lagers’ delicate profiles don’t allow beer off-flavors anywhere to hide, making them challenging styles to brew. The light complexity of lagers are straightforward and what everyone craves on a nice spring day. So…step away from the ale, drop the hops, stop with the sours, and join Asheville and regional craft breweries Saturday, May 14th as they celebrate all things lager.
How do you LagerFest? is an opportunity for HiWire Brewing and other regional breweries to showcase, what has become, a misunderstood beer. The event will highlight the wonderful world of lagers in a laid back and casual festival setting.
HiWire will be pouring 10 of its speciality lagers and releasing its Spring Maibock (7% ABV) for the event. Other breweries will include The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, Duck Rabbit, Brevard Brewing, Sierra Nevada, Foothills, Brooklyn Brewery, Highland Brewing, Smuttynose, Fullsteam, Mother Earth, Burial, Birdsong, Twin Leaf, and River Rat.
Admission is $8 and includes How do you LagerFest? glassware and two beer tokens. Foothills Local Meats will be grilling up some popular barbeque eats and more beer tokens will be available for purchase throughout the event. Enjoy your lager as you get down with some miniature golf, corn hole, and other classic backyard games. Grab your grandpa’s lawn chair and
join us for an afternoon full of lager love. #HowdoyouLagerFest
