Sky Lanes, the popular bowling alley on Patton Avenue is undergoing some serious renovations. The alley was purchased by a group of local investors in February 2015, and the new owners are bringing some much needed updates to the 1963 bowling alley. We can’t release too many details, but we are thrilled to share a few tidbits that we learned.
Currently, the machines in each lane are being rebuilt from the ground up. This is being done in segments, so a number of lanes remain open for bowlers to use. Their are rumors of new hours, including some that will please second and third shift workers: the alley is hoping to remain open for 24 hours, three days a week.
Sky Lanes is known for being the cheapest place in town for games, with pricing being significantly less expensive than AMF Star Lanes on Tunnel Road. We asked if the renovations would cause the price for shoe rental and games to go up. Thankfully, we were assured that the price increase would be nominal. Regulars can expect to see the cost per game rise .50 cents at most. Our broke staff members breathed a sigh of relief at this happy news.
The renovations will happen in three phases, with phase one taking place now. We promised not to spill the beans, but the alley will remain open during this process. All phases should be complete by the fall, and we can assure you that the changes will make you want you to dust off your bowling shoes, grab a friend, and head on down to Sky Lanes to check it all out.
