David Joe Miller presents a Spooky Spoken Word Open Mic on Monday October 29th. All writers, storytellers and poets are invited to attend and participate. The theme is “spooky” and Miller urges you to bring your “spookiest” words. Costumes are welcomed and encouraged.
Special guest co-host will be writer, performer and author, Alli Marshall, winner of the 2018 UNC Asheville Ramsey Library Community Author Award and regional representative for the North Carolina Writers’ Network. David Joe Miller, a professional storyteller since 1989 and former staff storyteller for the National Storytelling Association in Jonesborough, TN. will join Ms. Marshall.
Spoken Word Open Mic is always free although a hat will be passed to help pay the rent. There is typically no theme but since it’s Halloween season, a spooky theme is urged but not required to participate. As always there is no competition and no censors. This is a great opportunity to try out new material or hone your public speaking skills in front of a live, supportive and enthusiastic audience.
Spoken Word Open Mic will take place at Habitat Tavern and Commons, 174 Broadway Street in downtown Asheville. Parking is free and easy in the Moog Music parking lot behind the building after 5:30. Sign up begins at 6:30 for the 7pm showtime.
