i didn't end up on the wrong side of the tracks or anything (which i usually do in my personal life anytime i explore some place new), but i did leave the comfort of the touristy, main streets of downtown asheville and ended up on a smaller, alley-ish-like street behind all the typical places. but i was so in that kind of mood today.

i decided to head back to haywood road today. i freaking loved it there. after i left waking life yesterday, i drove down the entire street and discovered more about this gem of a neighborhood. brick warehouse buildings, cafes, shops, yoga & massage studios, pubs, diners, and other regular businesses. it was like a little downtown in and of itself. so, i just had to go back.

Preventing and Treating Your Pets’ Protein Allergies

Does your dog chew at his tail or feet? Does your cat have a dry, dull coat (or even bald patches) and always seems to be itchy? Are you constantly at the vet for ear infections or digestive issues? Food allergies or insensitivities may be to blame! While grain allergies are the most common seen in dogs, they can, and often do, develop allergies to specific proteins in their diets. Dogs and cats are not born with allergies to specific proteins; they are developed over time by feeding the same ingredients over and over. If a dog is given chicken every day of his life, for example, over time his body may become less equipped to break down those proteins. The body begins to mistakenly identify chicken as a harmful ingredient, and creates defensive antibodies to fight against the food. This is what causes the symptoms that many of us have become familiar with. Feast for FEAST and help children learn what’s good for them

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (8.21.13) – Feast for a good cause at the Grove Arcade on Sept. 12, 2013 by attending Feasting for FEAST, a fundraiser sponsored by Asheville Scene, the arts and culinary guide published by The Asheville Citizen-Times. More than a dozen area restaurants will provide tasty samples and Oskar Blues will donate the beer.  “This event provides an excellent opportunity to try a lot of Asheville’s top restaurants in one place,” FEAST Director Kate Justen said. “It’s always a great party.” Confirmed restaurants include Chorizo, MG Road, Everyday Gourmet, Farmers Daughter Catering, All Souls Pizza, Mayfel’s, Earth Fare, Laughing Seed Cafe, Sunny Point Cafe, The Junction, The Cantina, Ambrozia Bar and Bistro, French Broad Chocolate Lounge, and True Confections. The FEAST Board of Directors will also be preparing bites while Slow Food Asheville will provide non alcoholic refreshments. Doubletree Catering will prepare tastings for the VIP area.  The Scene VIP Lounge, hosted by Private Mountain Communities, will also have craft brew from Burial Beer Co., a mixology contest and more.
