Brother Wolf Animal Rescue is excited to announce that their mobile clinic has spayed and neutered more than 1,000 dogs and cats since the program launched in November 2018. The mobile spay/neuter clinic was founded to serve communities throughout western North Carolina who may otherwise not have access to local and affordable spay and neuter services. Through this new, lifesaving resource, Brother Wolf anticipates spaying and neutering approximately 6,000 dogs and cats in 2019. No-Kill community development is an integral part of Brother Wolf’s work, and launching the mobile clinic has helped advance their partnerships with other regional animal welfare organizations. Audrey Lodato, Director of Animal Care, says “Our goal is to provide the crucial services that these organizations and their communities may not otherwise have access to. By preventing unwanted litters, we can prevent thousands of animals from ever entering the overcrowded shelter system in the first place. Shelters should serve as resource centers first and foremost to provide their communities with the tools they need. Local nonprofit organizations, universities, and businesses have teamed up to celebrate Earth Month again this year through a collective effort — WNC for the Planet. The collective partnership will host a month of environmental service, education opportunities and community events across Western North Carolina. As part of the effort, WNC for the Planet launched an online community calendar at WNCfortheplanet.org where the public can learn about various events and volunteer days inspired by Earth Day 2019. “Last year WNC for the Planet collective was well received by the community with over 1300 hours and 50 service projects in our region,” says Anna Zanetti, North Carolina Director of Friends of the Smokies. WNC for the Planet features service opportunities and educational programs for people of all ages, and from all walks of life. The following is a press release sent in by the French Broad River Garden Club announcing their 2019 Annual Plant Sale, happening at the end of April The French Broad River Garden Club Foundation announces its 2019 Annual Plant Sale, held April 27 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. This springtime tradition is a popular event enjoyed by locals and visitors from our region. It is a good time to speak with the nursery growers of plants, shrubs, and trees so gather your questions and come join the fun. Our “Speakers Event” at 11am will allow visitors to sit inside Clem’s Cabin and take a break from shopping, and be educated by one of the area’s most knowledgeable hands-on farmers. This year’s speaker will be Annie Louise Perkinson, of Flying Cloud Farm. Annie Louise will be speaking about how to grow a “cutting garden.” She has had lots of experience with this, as her family farm in Fairview is well known by many.
