Keeping A Toddler Busy: Busy Bags

If you are a momma like me, you have a "To-Do" list made out every single day, but with a little one clinging to your leg, that list hardly ever gets accomplished. In my desperation to just be able to entertain my one-year-old and get some chores done around the house, I searched Pinterest and found a slew of things to make to keep my little one busy. They call them "Busy Bags" the greatest mom idea EVER if you ask me. Basically, you take a few household items, create a game or activity out of them and 'bada-bing' you have hours worth of fun. Forget going out and buying a brand new thirty dollar toy, try these!

I’m not selfish – I don’t want children

There is a huge push in our society to raise children, especially here in the South. Most women are born and bred to go to school, get married, and have children - in that order. Sometimes I feel like we have been raised in such a society that you may not realize that you have been predestined for a certain track in life, and you don't question that trail - you just take it. Being a mom is often proclaimed to be the most important job in the world - and I'm not here to dispute that fact. Without my own parents, my mom especially, I would not be here today. However, just because my parents made the decision to procreate and bring another child into this world, does not mean that I have any obligation to do so myself.

The Key to Staying Sane as a Stay at Home Mom

As a new mother, I have found what I believe to be the key to unlocking my sanity as a stay at home mom (SAHM). Now it seems to be a no-brainer, but before, I really had a hard time with this. No, I am not a supermom however hard I try; and no, I am not full of all the wisdom in the world when it comes to “mommyhood”.

Keeping Up With The Joneses

GOD has just freed the Israelites from the powers of Egypt  and called upon Moses to come to the top of Mount Sinai, the above scripture is part of the new system of laws that GOD is giving to Moses for the people.

After reading the scriptures above, one would stand to reason that it is not right to want what others have.  Yet in our society today it is hard to find someone who truly does not want what others have.  In fact, it is now a way of life, hence the common idiom "Keeping up with the  Joneses."  We as Christians, and yes I am not immune to this, are all guilty in some form or another.

As I was folding the laundry for the family that I work for a question popped into my head. Why do you buy the clothes that you do?  Is it because you like it or that it is fashionable, or is it because of the name?

If you by clothes because of the name, why?  How am I to know who the designer of your certain piece of clothing is?  The only way someone would actually know is if they asked you personally, or the name was in a very visible place on the article itself.  Buying clothing because it is fashionable is not as questionable as buying for the name brand.  However, it would stand to reason that you are buying the item to be on trend with everyone else.  You will sometimes here people say "oh that style is so last year", which in turn makes most people want to go and buy the latest styles just to keep up.

I say buy something because you like it, not because of who made it or if its the latest rage in fashion.  Honestly I'd rather be comfortable in something that isn't currently in style, than be uncomfortable in something that is.  Not to mention the cost of keeping up with the current styles.

That brings me to another part of trying to "keep up with the Joneses".  Cost, have you seen how much things are costing now days.  It seems like the less fabric there is to an item, the more it costs.  Not to mention paying for someones name on the item, once you add a certain name to it the prices doubles.

Does the higher price mean that the item will last longer.  Well in my experience, that is  not true at all.  Somethings maybe more durable at a higher price, but for the most part, they all wear the same and need replaced about the same time.  I can say though that I have run into a few name brand items that have actually worn out quicker than those with a significantly lower price tag.

It's funny to see how people act about having a name brand item.  It's like it makes them a better person, and can fix any of their flaws.  I hate to tell them that it isn't true at all.  The saying, "Clothes don't make the man, it is the man who makes the clothes", would apply here.  People who are infatuated with name brands seem to worship them. Which would bring me to three other laws that GOD gave Moses while on Mount Sinai:

Mommy Time

Every mom started her life as a little girl and grew to have expectations and dreams of her own. Each of those little girls grew into young women that still held tightly (or not so tightly) to their dreams but responsibilities and expectations of others grew as well. As the girl grows into a young woman, and the young woman matures and is blessed with a spouse and motherhood, the responsibilities of life can become quite overwhelming. We as mothers can often get lost in nurturing the lives of those around us that we fail to nurture ourselves. We have to be careful when we continuously give because we can forget how to receive. I have been asked several times recently what my hobbies are. Things like “taking naps or sleeping in” and “having alone time” or even “taking a shower with no interruptions” and “going to the bathroom alone” come to mind. To my illusion, these are not hobbies. These are mostly fantasies that many mothers share. It amazes me how much thought I have to put into what my hobbies are. Then I can get off on saying something like, “these are what my hobbies would be if …
