Wine-lovers are invited to the WNC Nature Center’s third Brews and Bears event of the summer on Friday, July 12, from 5:30-8:00PM. The after-hours event allows friends, families, and colleagues to enjoy the Nature Center in the evening, when animals are more active in their habitats.

Firestorm Books & Coffee is excited to announce children’s summer programming taking place at the bookstore from July 6th through August 24th 2019, with an event every Saturday at 10:30am. The programming rotates each week between read alouds and arts and crafts events, all of which are focused on local ecology, using natural materials to make art, recycling and upcycling, and gardening.

Bears Bees + Brews is partnering with Center for Honeybee Research to host ‘Pollinators: Secret Superheroes Dinner,’ an intimate dinner experience highlighting the essential role pollinators play for the culinary world and for a healthy ecosystem. The dinner is a part of Asheville GreenWorks and Bee City USA— Asheville’s 7th Annual Pollination Celebration.

Asheville Outlets (ShopAshevilleOutlets.com) will host the Independence Day 5K on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. Participants can choose from the timed 5K run/walk or the 1 mile unlimited walk. Registration pricing, day of or in advance is $30 for adults for the 5K Race and $15 for the 1 mile walk. Special senior and youth pricing available. $5 from every registration will go towards either the Wounded Warrior Project or Veteran for Peace. 50,000 strong, but there is still much work to do. Asheville nonprofit, the POP Project, turns 10 years old and is celebrating by hitting a few milestones this year. The first happened on May 12, when POP reached 50,000 lifetime books delivered. That total amounts to nearly a quarter million dollars worth of books distributed to places with needs throughout our community and state, all at no cost to the recipients.
