Asheville Taxi Co., a local car service, has obtained a permit from the State of North Carolina to operate as a Transportation Network Company, also known as a “Rideshare” like multinationals Uber and Lyft. Passengers looking for a ride hail drivers in their own private vehicles through a smartphone app on their Android or iPhone device, are taken to their destination, and pay by credit card linked to their accounts. No cash or credit card present is necessary and a receipt showing the trip details is automatically emailed to the passenger and driver.
