The following is a press release sent in by the French Broad River Garden Club announcing their 2019 Annual Plant Sale, happening at the end of April  The French Broad River Garden Club Foundation announces its 2019 Annual Plant Sale, held April 27 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  This springtime tradition is a popular event enjoyed by locals and visitors from our region. It is a good time to speak with the nursery growers of plants, shrubs, and trees so gather your questions and come join the fun. Our “Speakers Event” at 11am will allow visitors to sit inside Clem’s Cabin and take a break from shopping, and be educated by one of the area’s most knowledgeable hands-on farmers. This year’s speaker will be Annie Louise Perkinson, of Flying Cloud Farm. Annie Louise will be speaking about how to grow a “cutting garden.” She has had lots of experience with this, as her family farm in Fairview is well known by many. Flying Cloud Farm grows vegetables, berries and, of course, flowers.  They use sustainable methods, without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides.  All their produce and flowers are sold locally through their CSA (a 20 week …

Plus New Mardi Gras Beer Pays Homage to King Cake The legendary “PB&J sandwich in a glass,” Peanut Butter Jelly Time (5.7 percent ABV), makes its annual return to the Catawba menu on March 1 with a weekend release party. The beer starts as a light brown ale with a touch of wheat in its malt bill, providing the bready base for the star ingredients – real raspberry puree and whole roasted North Carolina peanuts. Continuing a new tradition started last year, the release party for Peanut Butter Jelly Time will include three specialty variations of the beer in addition to the original Raspberry: Strawberry-Rhubarb, Blackberry, and the debut of Black Currant. Availability Catawba’s most popular Specialty Series beer since 2012, PB&J will be at all four Catawba tasting rooms and the Palmetto Brewing tasting room in Charleston. They should be malleable and evenly dried with no discoloration. Once your bag has the best red chilies, it is now time to rehydrate them so that you can use them in your cuisine. Here are the steps that you must follow to rehydrate Dried Chillies at home. Remove all Stems and Seeds Start by removing the stem from red chilies. The next step is to slit them open and shake the seeds out. You can use spoons to scrape off all the remaining ones. Roast the Chilies Once the seeds have been discarded, place the chilies on a hot or medium hot griddle and roast them for up to four minutes.
