Catawba Valley Brewing Co. acquires Wilmington NC’s Skytown Beer Co.

Family-owned Catawba Valley Brewing Company, one of Southeast’s oldest and largest craft brewers, is expanding to North Carolina’s coast. “We’ve been actively evaluating locations for some time and have come to love the beer scene and lifestyle in Wilmington. We felt we could really integrate and contribute there,” said Billy Pyatt, Catawba’s CEO and co-owner. “We knew Hayley and Stephen from Beer Barrio, their Front Street restaurant, and a few very cooperative conversations with them resulted in us buying their brewery location. The purchase closed February 10th, and we hope to be making new, coastally-inspired beverages and serving all the Catawba/Palmetto/Twisp favorites at 4712 New Centre Drive by late February.”

Catawba Brewing Painting South Slope Green with Two St. Patrick’s Day Events

Catawba Brewing Co. will throw two St. Patrick’s day events, starting with Paddy’s Day Irish Brunch from Blind Pig on Sunday, March 15. The brewery will continue the St. Patrick’s Day spirit on March 17 with live Irish tunes. Two Irish beer releases brewed in honor of the holiday will be available at both events, which will take place at the South Slope location.

Asheville will be one of only four markets to get a first taste of its launch flavors: The Mule, The Paloma and The Spritzer. Catawba Brewing to Celebrate 20th Anniversary, Week of Festivities on Tap

To mark its 20th anniversary, family-owned Catawba Brewing Co. will celebrate with Asheville for an entire week. The emerald-anniversary excitement will kick off on July 15 with a “Find Green, Get Green” gift card promotion where patrons will have the chance to win a $20 gift card during the week, or a $200 gift card on Saturday at the South Slope tasting room. Catawba will cap off the week on July 20 with an all-day party at its South Slope location, replete with four anniversary beer releases; onsite T-shirt printing; multiple bands; Blind Pig bites; Three Eggs Cakery of Asheville sweet treats, plus a celebration at the Biltmore Village tasting room.

Catawba Brewing to Host First-Ever White Zombie 5k During Asheville Beer Week

Catawba Brewing Co. is pleased to announce its first-ever White Zombie 5k, which will take place on June 1 at 9 a.m. on the last day of Asheville Beer Week. During the 5k, participants may run or walk from Catawba's South Slope tasting room through downtown Asheville to dodge zombies along the way in several "Outbreak Zones.” Racers who wish to dress in costume are encouraged to come as zombies or other Catawba characters (e.g., Farmer Ted, Evening Joe, HOPness Monster, etc.) to join in the festivities. Catawba will donate 3.5 meals per registration to MANNA FoodBank.

Plus New Mardi Gras Beer Pays Homage to King Cake The legendary “PB&J sandwich in a glass,” Peanut Butter Jelly Time (5.7 percent ABV), makes its annual return to the Catawba menu on March 1 with a weekend release party. The beer starts as a light brown ale with a touch of wheat in its malt bill, providing the bready base for the star ingredients – real raspberry puree and whole roasted North Carolina peanuts. Continuing a new tradition started last year, the release party for Peanut Butter Jelly Time will include three specialty variations of the beer in addition to the original Raspberry: Strawberry-Rhubarb, Blackberry, and the debut of Black Currant. Availability Catawba’s most popular Specialty Series beer since 2012, PB&J will be at all four Catawba tasting rooms and the Palmetto Brewing tasting room in Charleston. The three small batch beers were brewed in Catawba’s Asheville and Charlotte brewhouses and will be sold exclusively in their tasting rooms. A special PB&J flight will be offered while supplies last. Catawba Brewing 2018 Passport Program Starts Now

Catawba Brewing is now pouring a Small Batch Russian Imperial Stout (8.0 percent ABV) at all four Catawba tasting rooms. Brewed in their 10-barrel Charlotte brewhouse, this traditional strong black ale is full-bodied and rich in flavor, with a silky smooth finish. Four specialty brewing grains produce notes of bitter chocolate and dark roast coffee, balanced with a hint of malty sweetness. Catawba plans to roll out a barrel-aged version of this beer at year end.
