 National Bike to Work Week is May 16-20 and a handful of WNC breweries are hosting Bike from Work week. Enjoy a beer, support bicycle advocacy, and have your bike tuned at Wedge, HiWire, Highland, Wicked Weed and New Belgium Brewery on your way home from work. Proceeds from pint sales will be split between bicycle advocacy organization Asheville on Bikes and greenway non-profit Friends of Connect Buncombe. Each brewery will host an evening of bike-centric activities. On Friday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at New Belgium Brewery, the breweries will donate collective proceeds to the two non-profits.

Last year Wicked Weed introduced Asheville citizens to their 40,000 square foot brewing facility in Candler, North Carolina. This new production facility was a vertical move to increase their distribution in Asheville, to support their large offering of beers. Wicked Weed proudly offers a minimum of 25 beers available at all times, taking an "ADD approach to brewing," chuckles Walt Dickinson.

Wicked Weed Brewing is set to pre-sell the culmination of their year long Angel Series: Angel of Darkness this Saturday, November 21st at 12pm (EST) online via Brown Paper Tickets. This American sour ale aged on boysenberries, blackberries, raspberries, and cherries in Oloroso sherry casks spent a total of 16 months in the barrel earning it the title of the oldest and most heavily fruited sour the brewery has yet released.

A steamy summer Saturday night in July.  A local waves farewell to his friends at the River Cleanup, jumps on his bike and heads to the Wedge for a sunset beer on the patio with the gang. Visitors from far and wide are finishing up at the Biltmore House ascending on Wicked Weed. The line out the door does not mean it is the only brewery in town.  The mugginess of this July day is swept up by a mountain breeze whipping across Lexington Ave up along Woodfin Ave and over Broadway. I lift my head back to take in the cooling relief while gazing up at the whisping straw of the tiki umbrella.

Wicked Weed has shot up like, well, a weed. This almost three year old business has opened as many facilities in just as many years. Starting out with the flagship location on Biltmore Avenue, expanding to the Funkatorium located on Asheville's South Slope, the team now is brewing at their new production facility in Candler. Wicked Weed first introduced their new 40,000 square facility earlier this year with a groundbreaking ceremony, where they outline their plans to brew, bottle, and sell their beloved beer to the Asheville masses. The new facility will not only bottle and brew, but in late 2016 the tasting room should be available for the general public to come and imbibe in one of the many Wicked brews.

It's been a pleasantly exhausting ABW to this point. After the opening fest-focused weekend, the past few days have centered on many smaller tasting events and beer dinners, culminating in last night's Goose Island specialty beers tapping (2013 Lolita, 2014 Bourbon County Brand Barleywine, The Illinois) at Appalachian Vintner (745 S. Biltmore) and the Not So Big BIG Beer Fest at Thirsty Monk's future brewery location near Biltmore Village (92 Thompson St.), where that line-up even included the prized Westbrook Mexican Cake.
