Catawba Brewing to Host First-Ever White Zombie 5k During Asheville Beer Week

Catawba Brewing Co. is pleased to announce its first-ever White Zombie 5k, which will take place on June 1 at 9 a.m. on the last day of Asheville Beer Week. During the 5k, participants may run or walk from Catawba's South Slope tasting room through downtown Asheville to dodge zombies along the way in several "Outbreak Zones.” Racers who wish to dress in costume are encouraged to come as zombies or other Catawba characters (e.g., Farmer Ted, Evening Joe, HOPness Monster, etc.) to join in the festivities. Catawba will donate 3.5 meals per registration to MANNA FoodBank.

When it comes to teaching kids to be safe around water, you can't underestimate the fear factor. Take 5-year-old Waylon, who barely put one toe in the pool during his first swim lesson and didn't speak until his third. As his YMCA Safety Around Water sessions continued, however, Waylon became more comfortable with the water, his classmates, and the instructor. His mother was so impressed with his progress she signed him up for more lessons.

Registration for the Anything That Floats Parade is now open! This parade features people from all walks of life as they express their creativity on the river. Teams work together to create all sorts of river vessels; some simple, some elaborate, some made from recycled materials, and others made with lots of flair. The Riveter Brings New Adventures to WNC

A new fitness facility aims to take your adventures to new heights. Located just a stone’s throw from Sierra Nevada and the Asheville Regional Airport, the Riveter will join outdoor adventure and environmental sustainability with a 40,000 square foot facility perched above a 10-acre working farm leading down to the French Broad River.  “The business is based on adventure fitness, but to me is much bigger than that – it is a place that will really give people an opportunity to find their community, build on their passion, and train to crush their outdoor adventures,” said Elizabeth Jackson, founder of the Riveter.  Slated to open next winter, the Riveter will be home to 16,000+ square feet of climbing terrain; 18,000+ square feet of progressive jump lines, drop training, and the first Velosolutions Pump Park in the country; yoga studio; spin studio; community space; libation station; retail shop; and outdoor courses including a cross-country perimeter trail around the farm.  Jackson co-owns the Riveter with business partner Eric MacLeod, MD.
